At Wrestlemania, Roman Reigns will battle none other than the legendary Undertaker. The build for this feud has not been exactly spectacular but the match has the potential to be very important for one of the superstars involved, that being The Big Dog.
Despite WWE's best efforts, Reigns is not received well by the majority of the WWE Universe, facing The Undertaker at Wrestlemania could be the perfect chance for Reigns to garner momentum and change his character in order to resonate with the fans, how would Reigns best capitalize on a match with The Undertaker? Well, it would be against everything that WWE have done for the past two years but the logical option for Reigns at this point would be to turn his back on The WWE Universe and turn heel for the first time since his days with The Shield.
The Reigns Experiment has failed, no matter what The WWE and Vince do, Reigns cannot touch base with the hardcore fans. However, turning heel could be fantastic for Reigns as a performer, the fans want to hate Reigns, the fans want to boo Reigns out of the building. Imagine how things would look for Reigns if he cheats to put down The Undertaker at Wrestlemania, The Undertaker, one of the all-time greats in the fans' eyes, losing at Wrestlemania to Roman Reigns. Brock Lesnar beating the streak was unbelievable but Reigns beating Undertaker would be unthinkable. Reigns would be the hottest heel that WWE would have in years.
It would allow Reigns to show more personality and flesh out his character, it worked for The Rock when Rocky Maivia was not catching on with the fans, Rocky Maivia died and in his place rose The Rock, one of the most charismatic superstars to ever grace a wrestling ring. Now, I am not saying that Reigns can do the exact same as The Rock but surely the higher-ups in WWE see that Reigns needs an edge, that Reigns could benefit from being the top heel on The Raw Roster.
It has been more than a year since I wrote an article about Roman Reigns and what was best to do for him as a wrestler, it saddens me to think that Reigns has not progressed since that day, that he still is in the same place he was more than two years ago, awkwardly trying to find his feet as a top guy and not being accepted by the fans. Do I think they will turn Reigns at Wrestlemania? No I do not but with Reigns reportedly headlining Wrestlemania 34 against Brock Lesnar, I hope something happens that makes Reigns connect with the fans.
