WCW The Great American Bash 1991 Review!

Hello and welcome to another edition of Seanomaniac Wrestling Reviews, the only wrestling review series on the internet that regularly winds up its audience more than a Meltzer Tweet! It’s time for WCW’s Great American Bash 1991 and boy oh boy do we have some stories here. To recap, Jim Herd had told Ric Flair to shave his head, wear a gladiator outfit become Spartacus and Flair told Herd to go fuck himself which leaves us with no world champion in WCW. So the main event is Lex Luger vs Barry Windham for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship! The Horsemen are no more but we have a new faction forming in The Dangerous Alliance led by Paul E. Dangerously, more on that later but this card looks bizarre and has some squash matches shoved in for good measure but Flair being gone is the main thing going into this show. This show is called an all-time disaster so let’s see if that’s true!

(Scaffold Skywalkers II Match) PN News and Beautiful Bobby Eaton vs Stunning Steve Austin & Terrence Taylor

Why is Eaton not in a more prominent match? Why is Taylor with Austin? A scaffold match where you win by stealing someone’s flag? Austin has the television championship so I imagine Austin has taken it from Eaton but what is this match? So they cannot do a whole lot in the match, they have to wrestle one on one. They cuddle for most of the match before Eaton takes the flag to win, Austin blinds Eaton with hairspray but the match is over so they just brawl for a bit and then it’s over. The fuck was that? Seven minutes of nothing.

Winners: Beautiful Bobby Eaton & PN News over Stunning Steve Austin & Terrence Taylor via Flag Retrieval!

The Diamond Studd vs The Z-Man

This starts with a leaping clothesline and chops by Z-Man, Studd is rocked in the corner. Corner clothesline by Zenk, side headlock but DDP low-bridges Zenk. Zenk chases down DDP but Studd clubs that fool, Studd sends Zenk into the guardrail. In the ring, Studd clubs Zenk but Zenk fires up, low kick to the ribs from Studd. Zenk meets the buckle, twice for Zenk. Zenk blocks the third attempt but Studd clubs down Zenk again. Middle rope choke from Zenk, Zenk ducks clotheslines and elbows and lands a crossbody for two. Zenk eats two knees to the ribs, make it three. Chest chops, Zenk fires back with chops of his own.

Whip to the opposite buckle reversed by Studd, shoulder thrusts in the corner. Abdominal stretch from Studd, Studd continues to use the ropes for leverage before being caught. Hip-toss by Zenk but Studd avoids the elbow drop, Zenk comes back again with right hands. Chokeslam from Studd, Studd calls for his finish. Studd almost gets rolled up but kicks out at two, Studd waits and lands a vicious clothesline. Irish whip by Studd who lowers his head, Zenk lands a sunset flip but Studd counters with a fist to the head. Zenk manages to land a superkick, Studd is sent into the guardrail and ring apron. Missile dropkick for two , DDP attacks Zenk so Zenk sends DDP into the ring and lands a thrust-kick. Studd lands a belly to back suplex for the win.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel here, Zenk is bland as bland can be as a babyface while Studd is not the full package here at all, character is not fleshed out nor the mannerisms, what you receive is a match that only goes 7 minutes but feels like 20 minutes. Really bad stuff.

Winner: The Diamond Studd over The Z-Man via Belly to Back Suplex!

Oz W/ The Wizard vs Ron Simmons

First real test for Oz, Simmons can be explosive fun and has quickly moved on from what happened with Butch Reed, clean breaks all around after lock-ups. Side headlock from Oz, Simmons struggles to break free under this hold. Simmons does turn the hold and trips down Oz, Oz pops back to his feet. Shoulder blocks with neither man moving before Oz lands a boot to the face and a shoulder block, make it two. Drop toehold from Simmons, Oz clubs down Simmons. Ugly looking clotheslines by Simmons before Oz is clotheslined to the floor on the third attempt, test of strength with Oz kicking Simmons to maintain control. Simmons wins the test but Oz clubs down Simmons again, axe handle blows from Oz.

Oz tosses Simmons to the floor, the Wizard gets involved and lands a massive kick to the ribs of Simmons. Simmons lands a shoulder thrust on the apron and dives over for the sunset flip, Oz counters with a right hand. Simmons ducks a clothesline and lands a dropkick, chop-blocks and a shot to The Wizard. Flying shoulder block and its over.

Wow that was bad, really bad and if this is a sign of things to come, I understand why this PPV has such a terrible reputation, this was brutal just like the matches before.

Winner: Ron Simmons over Oz via Flying Shoulder Tackle!

Richard Morton W/ Alexandra York vs Robert Gibson

The Rock “N” Roll Express implodes! Morton had turned on Dustin Rhodes to join The York Foundation, this would lead to Gibson questioning the actions of Morton which led to this match. Richard Morton has done nothing to change his look so you could hardly tell that this was meant to be a new Ricky Morton. Thankfully they both know how to work, it starts on the floor with fists flying. Morton is on the floor, looking for strategy as Gibson is furious. The two get down to business with Gibson slamming Morton down with Morton powdering to the floor. Morton is begging for mercy, more strategy talk between Morton and Alexandra York.

Clean break from Gibson, Morton powders once again. Gibson is too eager and Morton takes control by working the leg that was injured, wrapping it around the ring-post. Morton goes after the knee with Gibson fighting on one leg, a knee-lift finds the mark before Morton trips up Gibson and drops his knee on the leg time and time again. Morton rips at the tights of Gibson to expose the injured leg of Gibson, vicious stuff here with stomps to the knee. Gibson tries a sunset flip and succeeds but the leg is still in tremendous pain, Morton applies a figure four on the damaged leg. We sit in the hold for a while before Gibson turns over the hold, Gibson tries to crawl away but Morton is in control. Slamming the knee into the mat again and again, the knee is smacked off the ring apron.

Gibson fights back with right hands, Gibson uses the ropes to hold himself up. Morton kicks the knee and Gibson collapses to the mat again, Gibson lands a DDT out of nowhere. Back body-drop, Gibson misses a dropkick and Morton works the leg again. Morton climbs high, Gibson yanks Morton to the canvas and lands an enzuigiri. Morton is on the ramp, they brawl on the ramp before both attempting dropkicks and crashing to the floor. York leaves her computer behind and distracts the referee. Morton smashes Gibson on the head with the computer for the win.

That leg work really went somewhere right? Way too long, I like the story of going after the knee, it is simple and straight-forward but Morton working the knee is shockingly boring. Considering his selling ability, you would think that it would have been a night-off for these two but this went on and on, far too long. Good for Morton that he picks up the win but I really do not want to see either of those two in WCW anymore, put them in SMW already!

Winner: Ricky Morton over Robert Gibson via Computer To The Head!

(Six-Man Elimination Match) The Fabulous Freebirds & Badstreet W/ Big Daddy Dink vs The Young Pistols & Dustin Rhodes

Pistols and Freebirds have been feuding the majority of the year at this point while Rhodes had been feuding with The York Foundation before finding himself a part of this feud. Hayes chops and right hands Rhodes, whip to the opposite buckle. Whip reversal by Rhodes who lands scoop slams and Bionic elbows all around, Hayes stalls before pushing Rhodes to the ropes. Garvin lands his knee and the heels are clearing house before Rhodes lands a double face-buster, diving shoulder blocks by The Young Pistols and The Freebirds powder.

Smothers and Garvin next, Garvin looks to have slimmed down a little too which is good for him. Lots of stalling before Garvin lands knees and right hands, whip to the buckle and back body drop by Smothers. One dropkick by Smothers, Garvin avoids the second dropkick. Blind tag to Armstrong who waits and waits before landing a diving clothesline on Badstreet, more stalling.  Armstrong and Hayes, wristlock into a tag by Armstrong as Smothers locks in a side headlock. Badstreet low-bridges Smothers and Big Daddy Dink lands a clothesline while Badstreet lands a scoop slam. Smothers and Hayes are back in the ring, left-hand from Hayes who knocks Smothers to the floor. Garvin stomps and stomps Smothers who is trying to make it back into the ring.

Scoop slam and knee-drop by Garvin, Irish whip into a knee to the ribs. Badstreet and Hayes put the boots to Smothers, elbow to the back of the head. Sleeper from Hayes, Smothers fights out of the sleeper but is drilled with a left-hand. Smothers meets the buckle, snap-mare for two before Garvin locks in a reverse chin-lock. Garvin attacks Rhodes and Armstrong so Badstreet can come in and attack Smothers, swinging neck-breaker by Badstreet for two. Smothers counters with a sunset flip for two, tag to Hayes who chops Smothers. Smothers fights back but again with the left hand to the head, Hayes struts all around the ring. Smothers back-drops his way out of the DDT, tag to Armstrong.

Back body drop by Armstrong, dropkicks for the other members of The Freebirds. Noggin-knocker and pier-six brawl time. Rhodes and Garvin are brawling, Double shoulder block to Badstreet, Armstrong wants to unmask Badstreet but Hayes is in and clotheslines Armstrong. Double DDT on Armstrong and this match is over for Steve Armstrong, we have our first elimination but Hayes back-drops Smothers to the floor which is a DQ in WCW so Michael Hayes has been eliminated for the back-drop to the floor. Badstreet in there with Smothers now, scoop slam and diving axe handle from Badstreet. Smothers reverses and makes the tag but Garvin had the referee distracted, Double DDT on Smothers and it’s goodnight for Smothers. Garvin celebrates but eats a flying clothesline and we are down to Rhodes vs Badstreet.

Diving axe handle by Badstreet, Rhodes is sent to the buckle head-first. Snap-mare into an elbow drop, two for Badstreet. Kick to the face, Rhodes stops Badstreet going up top. Scoop slam and Badstreet is high but a fist to the ribs and a flying clothesline from Rhodes. Big Daddy Dink distracts the referee so Badstreet can kick out, Badstreet sends Rhodes to the buckle who explodes out with a Running Bulldog and a kick to Big Daddy Dink for the win.

Best match of the night so far, not a fan of the concept of elimination after elimination thick and fast, I think if they are spaced out there can be more drama involved but nonetheless, this match was fun. Not sure where we go from here for the two tag teams involved, I have seen them wrestle for so long now. Give me something new please!

Winners: Team Rhodes over The Fabulous Freebirds via Running Bulldog!

The Yellow Dog vs Johnny B. Badd W/ Teddy Long

Flamboyant Johnny B. Badd is here and his opponent is The Yellow Dog aka Brian Pillman in a mask because he lost the Loser Leaves WCW match at the previous Clash. Badd’s first PPV appearance so let’s see how Badd does with Pillman who was a rising star in the company also. Dog slaps Badd, Badd comes back with a knee and a scoop slam. Dog lands a massive dropkick and a chop, Badd rolls out to the floor. Side headlock by Dog, crucifix into a victory roll for two. Badd is not happy, wristlock from Dog. Eye-poke and clubbing blows from Badd, Irish whip but Dog avoids the scoop slam. O’Connor roll does not work but Dog dropkicks Badd into Teddy Long. Badd plays possum and lands a clothesline, Dog meets the guardrail and is the victim of vicious kicks.

The two exchange chops, Dog misses a middle rope diving crossbody and Badd goes for a diving sunset flip. Two for Badd, Badd tries ripping at the mask but Dog counters with a jaw-breaker. Badd misses a left-straight and Dog lands a German suplex, big chops from Dog. Eye-rake and Irish whip by Badd, Dog lands a spinning heel kick, back body drop by Dog. Dog lands a Diving Crossbody and Long attacks for the DQ!

Ok match, not a fan of the gimmick as I feel it is out of place in 1991, works better in the territory days but why do this to Pillman when Pillman was over like rover previous to this?

Winner: Yellow Dog over Johnny B. Badd via DQ!

(Lumberjack Match) Big Josh vs Black Blood

I saw vignettes for Black Blood but I have no idea about the gimmick while Big Josh is a big Lumberjack played by Matt Borne who would later play Doink. Black Blood is Billy Jack Haynes! Wow that’s an interesting one, right hands before Big Josh is dumped to the floor and beaten to death by the heels. Big Josh is helped by the babyfaces back in this time, I still see JYD there. Big Josh fights back with a clothesline and dropkick, the heels take care of Black Blood. Snap-mare before both men chop one another many times, Big Josh trips up Black Blood and lands the log roll. More back and forth, the lumberjacks are getting mad with one another. Lumberjacks start brawling which gets a pop, Black Blood continues to land face-busters and a leg drop. Josh boots Black Blood in the face, big right hands from Big Josh. Irish whip and running chop, whip to the buckle. Black Blood boots Big Josh in the face, another brawl on the floor. German suplex from Black Blood, Black Blood has his axe. Dustin Rhodes smashes Black Blood in the leg and Big Josh cradles for the win.

Shite match here, they work the stipulation well but this stipulation is never going to be high on matches I want to see, Dustin Rhodes attacking the knee of Black Blood for the win is bizarre too, I suppose it was as good as they could hope for but not very entertaining for me to watch.

Winner: Big Josh over Black Blood via Small Package!

One Man Gang vs El Gigante

Gigante comes to the rings with a bunch of midgets, Sullivan looks like a grandad with his hair-style, make-up and pyjama pants attire. Gigante does not have his mullet, what happened? They shaved his head that’s what happened, One Man Gang powders. Hip-toss by Gigante, shoulder thrusts by Gigante. One Man Gang avoids Gigante and lands a middle rope diving clothesline, One Man Gang attacks Gigante with a foreign object. Sullivan attacks Gigante for good measure from the outside, One Man Gang has the object and works the knee of Gigante who sells poorly. Gigante is crawling around the ring, will this end? Splash from One Man Gang but Gigante survives, hot-shot from One Man Gang and he climbs to the top rope. Gigante yanks One Man Gang off the top rope, elbow by Gigante. Whip to the buckle and suplex, Sullivan tries to interfere but is crotched on the buckle. Gigante lands a noggin-knocker on both, One Man Gang has powder. Gigante kicks it into the face of One Man Gang and a Northern Lariat later, this is over. GARBAGE!

Winner: El Gigante over One Man Gang via Northern Lariat!

(Russian Chain Match) Nikita Koloff vs Sting

Obviously an odd one here as all things pointed to Luger vs Nikita considering Nikita took out Luger when Luger was presented with the new United States Championship but plans changed and now Sting stands across from Nikita. They had a good match at the previous Clash with Sting squeaking out a victory but this is the speciality of Koloff, the chain is applied and Nikita starts talking that trash to the face of Sting.

Big boot from Nikita to start, Sting fires back with boots and clubbing blows. Nikita meets the ring-post with his shoulder, Sting drops Nikita on the guardrail twice at ringside. Sting sends Nikita into the buckle over and over, Nikita rolls to the floor. Sting chokes Nikita with the chain around ringside, Nikita is on the ramp but continue to try and create distance from The Stinger. Ah yes, the Russian Chain Match where you have to touch all four corners, a concept that never fails to deliver. Nikita stops Sting from touching the corner, Sting is bounced off the guardrail. Nikita lands a clothesline using the chain, Nikita ties it around his fist and batters Sting across the neck and back. Sting grabs Nikita in the ring but Nikita clubs down Sting, anything will do to maintain control.

Elbow drop with the chain by Nikita, Nikita chokes the life out of Sting with the chain. Nikita tries an elbow drop but Sting moves, right-hand from Sting. Sting yanks the chain through the nuts of Nikita, Nikita low-blows Sting and goes to touch the corners, three corners for Nikita. Sting kicks Nikita and breaks the progress, both men grapple one another and they continue to touch the corners together. Low-blow by Nikita, low-blow by Sting. Sting touches three corners but Nikita clubs down Sting and a Russian Sickle. Both men have three corners but Sting lands a Stinger Splash and it sends Nikita into the corner for the win.

Shockingly shite finish in a strap match, who would have seen that coming? Anyways, all the heat that they had built with the Superbrawl moment and the attacks on the previous Clash go to waste because this match is worthless. Not a whole lot of pacing going on, finish is lame.

Winner: Nikita Koloff via Touching All 4 Corners!

(Vacant WCW World Heavyweight Championship Steel Cage Match) Barry Windham vs Lex Luger

Interesting to have a battle between two men for the WCW Championship when they are both regarded as having missed out on the right moment to put the championships on them, Windham deserved the championship due to his work in 1986 and 1987 while Lex Luger had arguably been as popular as Sting and due to Flair’s promise to Sting, Luger never held that championship when it could have been his time. These two never did feud over the United States Championship that would have been perfect considering Windham stole Luger’s place in The Horsemen. Things are very different now though, we want Flair chants from the fans so this might be a disaster.

Luger seems to be heeling it up from the get-go, Luger does not seem like his usual self here while Windham looks ready to capture that championship. Shoulder block with neither man going down, Luger blocks a suplex as does Windham. Clean break from both, shoulder block from Windham but Luger answers with a hip-toss. Side headlock by Luger, shoulder block by Luger. Windham catches Luger with a dropkick, small package by Luger for one. Luger lands a scoop slam but misses the elbow drop, they slug it out before resetting again. Windham and Luger trade a little wrestling holds before Windham slaps the shit out of Luger, suplex by Luger though. Again, they stop and reset.

Windham tries snapping the leg of Luger, Luger avoids it. Very slow test of strength who kicks the leg of Windham, Windham lands a shoulder block but Luger slaps on a sleeper. Windham escapes and leapfrogs before slapping on the sleeper, Windham gets caught before yanking Luger off the top rope. Knee-drop for two, Windham climbs high and Luger eats a boot to the face. Windham misses the diving elbow drop, back body drop and three clotheslines for two for Luger. Irish whip into an elbow for two, Irish whip into the powerslam from Luger. Torture Rack from Luger, Windham flips out using the ropes and lands a belly to back suplex. Luger places Windham on the top rope, Windham avoids the superplex.

Windham is up high, diving clothesline from Windham. Luger pops right back up, Irish whip into the back-body drop. Windham measures and lands his Flying Lariat, scoop slam by Windham. Two for Windham, Windham climbs up again and lands a missile dropkick for two. Harley Race and Mr. Hughes are here, why? Windham is confused by this, Windham is talking smack with Hughes. Luger knees Windham who was distracted and Luger lands a piledriver for the win! New champion for the first time, Luger is WCW World Heavyweight Champion.

That was such average as a match, it is shocking. Utterly shocking that they put that together, it seemed like an attempt from a company that has been utterly deflated by the loss of The Nature Boy. The finish is such an odd one because nobody knows Luger has turned heel, Luger did not even pull off anything heelish in there. The stops and starts really take their toll, I understand the idea of pacing yourself in a championship match from a kayfabe sense but the fans are sitting on their hands and chanting for Flair. Nowhere near a championship calibre match, very disappointing.

Winner: Lex Luger over Barry Windham via Piledriver!

(Mixed Tag Steel Cage Match) Arn Anderson & Paul E. Dangerously vs Missy Hyatt & Rick Steiner

What is this match? Why is it the main event? Hyatt and Dangerously had been feuding but we are going to have a steel cage match? Hyatt defeated Dangerously in an arm-wrestling contest but this is a whole other ball game. Dirty Dick Slater and Dick Murdoch kidnap Missy Hyatt. Rick Steiner is all alone against Anderson and Dangerously. Not sure how that handicaps Rick Steiner in any way, makes things way easier for Rick as he does not have to worry about Missy Hyatt. Rick powerslams Anderson hard, Dangerously freaks out on the apron. Anderson knees Rick in the spine, bearhug from Rick. Dangerously lands a diving axe handle on Rick, Anderson has Dangerously’s boot. Anderson tries an axe handle, Rick clotheslines Anderson before grabbing Dangerously. Scoop slam and Steiner-Line for the win. Your main event boys and girls, what a joke.

Winner: Team Hyatt over Team Dangerously via Steiner-Line!

That was WCW’s Great American Bash 1991, an awful PPV up there with The Bunkhouse Stampede 1988 PPV and December to Dismember. This card was awful, we kick things off with a tag team scaffold match that revolves around punches and kicks and not much else before Eaton casually walks across and grabs the flag for the win. Pointless stuff, things do not improve as Z-Man and Studd work a match with little to no heat to it, just kept going and never felt like ending. That feeling of will this garbage ever end continues as Oz and Ron Simmons stink up the ring together. The card I thought would change when I saw Ricky Morton vs Robert Gibson but the work leg goes far too long and by the time the finish comes around, I had lost all interest in this match as had the crowd.

The Lumberjack match was rough too, just brawling with little to no fun. Gigante vs One Man Gang should never ever have been booked, that was horrific. Sting vs Koloff does not deliver despite the great build they had, all of it pissed away in this dull strap match and you world heavyweight championship match is so dull and lifeless from a brilliant worker in Windham and a popular babyface in Luger, it is so middle of the road and safe I just cannot imagine how a world championship match in a cage was so boring but WCW shows me how it can be and finally, a main event that goes 2 minutes because why not right? Top tier terrible PPV, avoid this like the plague! Thanks for reading and remember: there’s always another night!

WCW WrestleWar 1991 Review!

Hello and welcome to another riveting edition of Seanomaniac Wrestling Reviews, the only wrestling review series on the internet that is fresher than Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns! It’s WrestleWar 1991 and it is all about The War Games because this card is bizarre, the big matches on this card include Lex Luger vs Danny Spivey for Luger’s United States Championship, Doom will be defending their championships against The Fabulous Freebirds which is ridiculous in my eyes and we have Stan Hansen vs Big Van Vader in a rematch from when Hansen popped out Vader’s eye. This truly is a curious event and I will do my best to explain all my thoughts as the show continues!

(WCW Six-Man Tag Team Championship Match) JYD/Ricky Morton/Tommy Rich © vs The Cat & State Patrol

Where has Dog been? Why is Morton not going after The York Foundation? Where are the championships? Is it fictional? JYD starts with The Cat? They trade big blows and stagger one another, JYD lands a clothesline and a headbutt. Tag to Wright, in comes Morton. Double elbow, hip-toss and arm-drag from Morton. Japanese arm-drags from Morton, tag to Rich who lands a clothesline. Wristlock from Rich, Wright backs Rich to the ropes and lands some blows before eating a scoop slam. Arm-drag from Rich, eye-rake and scoop slam by Wright. Tag to Parker who misses an elbow drop, Rich lands a shoulder block, hip-toss and arm-drags. Tag to Morton who works the arm and tags in JYD.

Face-rake from JYD, headbutt from Dog. Tag to Cat, test of strength. JYD staggers Cat with headbutts before an eye-rake by Cat. Elbow drop and a tag to Parker, clubbing blows by Parker. JYD shakes that off, rights and lefts by JYD. Tag to Morton, Wright nails Morton with his baton behind the referee’s back. Back-breaker and diving headbutt combination for two, Parker tags in Cat who lands a massive elbow drop. Cat lands a dropkick on Morton for two, Morton dodges the elbow drop. Parker tags in, right hands by Parker. Morton runs into a powerslam for two, tag to Wright. Battering ram and bulldog for two, tag to Parker. Double back-breaker and elbows for two, Cat throws Morton into the mat. Back-breaker by Cat, two for Cat. Morton escapes and tags in JYD, right hands and headbutts all around. Thump Powerslam on Parker, Cat interrupts the pin so Morton climbs on top and the referee counts the three.

Does the referee not care about rules? That is allowed? Also what is this match? Rich and Morton are still a team? JYD is still here? Where did El Gigante and Paul Orndorff go? Whatever, this was as basic as you could hope for when opening a PPV, nothing of note here except I really hope by the end of 1991, all these acts have left the company.

Winners: Team Morton over Team Cat via THUMP!

Beautiful Bobby Eaton vs Brad Armstrong

Beautiful Bobby jumps Armstrong to start the match, leapfrogs and drop-downs before a head-scissors from Armstrong and a deep arm-drag into an arm-bar. Eaton tosses Armstrong to the floor, Armstrong smashes Eaton off the guardrail. Wristlock before Eaton goes to the ropes, they try a test of strength. Eaton kicks low to gain control, Armstrong leaps over Eaton and tries a diving crossbody for two before slapping on an arm-bar. Eaton backs Armstrong to the corner, massive right from Eaton. Armstrong is bounced off the buckle, Eaton has his suplex countered by Armstrong. Eaton begs for mercy, right hands to the ribs from Armstrong. Arm-bar from Armstrong, O’Connor roll from Armstrong but Eaton holds onto the ropes and drills Armstrong with a clothesline.

Irish whip into the back-breaker from Eaton, two for Eaton. Scoop slam into an elbow drop to the head from Eaton, two for Eaton. Reverse chin-lock from Eaton, Armstrong elbows his way out before Eaton nails a knee-lift, slingshot back-breaker from Eaton for two. Armstrong eats a massive elbow from Eaton, Eaton kicks Armstrong to the floor. Armstrong is dropped across the guardrail in brutal fashion, abdominal stretch from Eaton who uses the ropes for leverage. Referee catches Eaton in the act, Armstrong starts to fire up before Eaton rakes the eyes. Whip to the buckle, Eaton misses a monkey flip attempt I suppose? Dropkick by Armstrong, Russian leg-sweep for two, Eaton places a foot on the ropes to survive. Armstrong sends Eaton to the buckle, Eaton dodges the back body-drop with a big neck-breaker. Eaton delivers The Alabama Jam and this is over!

Technically fine, it’s interesting to me how despite Eaton’s heel status, Beautiful Bobby continues to be one of the most cheered wrestlers on the roster, Armstrong is underrated if you believe everything that is said on the internet, I suppose I can buy into the idea but the man is always jobbing out to the stars so how can I see if he was ever worth the hype? It’s a fine match but you will remember nothing about it in an hour.

Winner: Beautiful Bobby Eaton over Brad Armstrong via Alabama Jam!

Miss A & Miki Handa vs Itsuki Yamazaki & Mami Kitamura

Miss A and Miki attack Itsuki and Mami before Itsuki and Mami land a double dropkick, diving arm-drag and springboard sunset flip with Miss A taking a whooping from Team Itsuki. Miss A survives and kicks the head of Itsuki? Arm-drag and side headlock takedown, shoulder block by Itsuki but Handa counters with a back body drop and a scoop slam. Miss A is in and delivers a massive suplex for two, Miss A works the leg while Itsuki tries to work the face of Miss A. Knees to the leg from Miss A, Irish whip to the buckle but Itsuki comes back with a massive springboard elbow. Mami lands a flying forearm and dropkick, double arm suplex for two.

Mami tags in Itsuki, belly to back suplex before Handa interrupts the pin, Handa tags into the match. Massive forearm to the face of Itsuki, small package by Itsuki for two. Handa delivers a suplex for two, Itsuki sends Handa to the buckle. Corner dropkick and bulldog from Itsuki, Mami lands a rolling headbutt and a gut-wrench suplex for two. Handa charges Mami to the corner, Miss A comes in and kicks the shit out of Mami. A kick knocks the wind out of Mami, test of strength into a sunset flip for two. Miss A lands a Northern lights suplex for two, belly to back suplex high and tight for two. Miss A tags in Handa, fisherman suplex for two. Tag to Itsuki, Miss A is tagged in too.

Double shoulder block and suplex on Itsuki, double missile dropkick by Mami. Miss A sends her to the buckle, assisted clothesline and sunset flip for two. Irish whip to the buckle, kick and lariat by Miss A but Mami places her foot on the ropes. Miss A lands a victory roll for the win.

Dusty Rhodes and Jim Ross have no idea which woman is which, it’s rather disappointing that you would take the time to showcase the athletes and not bother to learn who is who. Disastrous from a reviewer’s point of view because I probably botched all their names. Anyways, they work hard and showcase a better match than most of the men on this card, I have no doubts about this.

Winners: Team Itsuki over Team Handa via Victory Roll!

The Natural Dustin Rhodes vs Buddy Landell

Landell continues to get booked to my disgust, Landell slaps Rhodes before Rhodes fires up with right hands. Back body-drop from Rhodes, massive dropkick for two. Landell asks for a break, Landell hides behind the referee. Knees and right hands from Landell, chops from Landell before Rhodes lands rights and lefts, elbow to the head. Whip to the buckle and hip-toss before a running clothesline for two. Arm-drag into the arm-bar from Rhodes, Landell escapes the hold but climbs high and talks trash. Rhodes yanks Landell down to the mat, Landell begs for mercy. Lock-up and Landell works the ribs, Rhodes reverses the Irish whip and misses a corner spear. Rhodes hits his shoulder off the ring-post, Landell stands all over the face of Rhodes. Massive chop and right hand from The Nature Boy, cover for two.

Knee to the ribs and Landell pulls down Rhodes by the hair, wristlock into the arm-bar from Landell. Landell rakes the eyes of The Natural, scoop slam for two. Irish whip and Landell slaps on the sleeper, Rhodes slips out and applies a sleeper but Landell runs Rhodes into the buckle. Whip to the opposite buckle, Rhodes blocks with a boot. Irish whip and clothesline rocks Landell, clothesline to the floor. Military press slam by Rhodes, Running Bulldog from Rhodes for the win!

Good PPV debut from Rhodes I guess, nothing spectacular here and unfortunately for Landell, his ways of working seem almost archaic at this point. It really is crazy to think the likes of JYD, Ricky Morton, Tommy Rich and Buddy Landell were still in WCW in 1991, they seem so out of place with the current crop of talent.

Winner: Dustin Rhodes over Buddy Landell via Running Bulldog!

The Young Pistols vs The Royal Family

No longer Wide-Eyed Southern Boys, Jack Victory on PPV again? Sweet Jesus how is this possible? Rip Morgan back on my screen? The Royal Family jump The Pistols, Armstrong lands a variation of his diving crossbody spot. Stereo dropkicks from The Pistols, the lights go out in the building. Morgan and Smothers start the match, clubbing blows from Morgan. Hammerlock throw to the buckle, wristlock from Morgan. Smothers reverses before Morgan grabs a headlock, Morgan uses the hair to maintain the headlock. Steve Armstrong  is tagged in, dropkicks all around.

Morgan kicks and batters Armstrong on the reset, scoop slam and tag to Victory. Arm-drag from Armstrong, side headlock from Victory and a shoulder block. Smothers tags in, double shoulder block on Victory for two. Lock-up and wristlock from Smothers, wrenching attacks and leg-drop to the arm from Smothers. Smothers has good control, tag to Armstrong. Double wrenches and chops, Victory pulls the hair and dodges a crossbody. Tag to Morgan who lands a boot to the head, stomps to the spine. Victory is in, big kicks to the ribs. Stinging rights from Victory, tag to Morgan who works the ribs. Elbow to the face, two for Morgan. Victory comes in, Armstrong fights back from his knees. Victory clubs Armstrong down, whip to the buckle. Boot by Armstrong, Morgan tags in and so does Smothers. Right hands all around, superkicks all around.

Morgan eats a flying elbow, right hands to Victory. Smothers is kicked in the back from the apron, Victory clotheslines Smothers to the floor. Morgan slams Smothers into the ring-post, Smothers is down at ringside. Morgan applies a bearhug, spinebuster cuts off a comeback attempt from Smothers. Two for Morgan, double belly to back suplex plants Smothers. Bearhug from Victory, tag to Morgan. Smothers is bounced off the buckles, tag to Victory. Massive clothesline to Smothers, Armstrong makes the save. Elbow by Morgan, Armstrong is kicked to the ramp by Victory. Double suplex is thwarted as Armstrong dropkicks Smothers who lands onto Morgan for the win.

Average in the finest sense of the word, how many gimmicks has Jack Victory ran through in the NWA/WCW? The man must have played so many different gimmicks in his time there, shockingly that none of them ever stuck and he’s best remembered for his tenure in ECW. Finish looks rough, Morgan spikes Smothers with a brainbuster.

Winners: The Young Pistols over The Royal Family via Dropkick!

(No Disqualification Match) Terry Taylor W/ Alexandra York vs The Z-Man

Terry Taylor joined The Foundation, trying to recapture some of the edge that he had in the UWF but it might all be too late. The man he is wrestling is WCW’s Sexiest Wrestler but The Z-Man is rough around the edges and I really wish that I did not have to watch this match. No DQ because both men were disqualified in matches with one another, clean breaks before Zenk makes Taylor powder to the floor. Lock-up and hip-toss from Zenk, massive dropkick and Taylor wants no more of Zenk. Shoving contest with Zenk slapping the taste out of Taylor. Taylor continues to cower behind the referee, Taylor talks strategy on the computer. Taylor is back in the ring, lock-up and shove to the corner. Right hand by Taylor, right hand by Zenk and more powdering.

Side headlock takedown from Zenk, Taylor tries rolling over into a roll-up. More powdering before a slug-fest, Zenk back body-drops Taylor for two. Side headlock takedown from Zenk for two, Zenk rolls-up the buckle for another nice headlock takedown. Taylor is back on his feet, Taylor backs Zenk to the corner. Headbutt from Taylor, not the best strategy but it works. Irish whip to the buckle, belly to back suplex from Taylor. Taylor has Zenk on the floor, Zenk is bounced off the guardrail and choked with the camera cable. Zenk throws big rights in the ring but Taylor uses a thumb to cut off Zenk. Back-breaker from Taylor, two for Taylor. Zenk’s foot is on the ropes, sunset flip from Zenk for a close two.

Clothesline by Taylor, camel clutch from Taylor. Zenk ducks a clothesline and lands a big one to the floor. Taylor pulls down Zenk, they are brawling by the guardrail. Zenk meets the guardrail, two in the ring for Taylor. Knee-drop from Taylor for two, Irish whip to the buckle followed by a clothesline for two. Irish whip with Zenk countering with a vicious neck-breaker. Right hands by Zenk, superkick to the face for two. Taylor was almost beaten, Irish whip by Zenk. Powerslam for two, Taylor takes the leg but Zenk counters with an enzuigiri. Diving Crossbody by Zenk, Alexandra York distracts the referee. Taylor rolls-up Zenk with a handful of tights.

Decent match, Zenk is not a stellar babyface by any means but I am warming up to the chicken-shit ways of Taylor, just wish there was a bit more venom to the match, these two guys hate one another and it’s no DQ so why not use a weapon or two? Show the brutality, show the hatred. Could you really separate this from the other matches on the card as a heated contest? Probably not so it falls flat there.

Winner: Terry Taylor over The Z-Man via Handful of Tights!

Stan Hansen vs Big Van Vader

I had no clue these two wrestled in WCW against one another, this is a shock but then again if nobody has ever talked about it to me and it’s not well-known, I have a feeling this will suck! So it’s been almost a year since Vader rocked up and destroyed Z-Man, Vader’s legend has grown in NJPW while Hansen is still the gaijin to beat in AJPW. Hansen runs at Vader, Vader lifts him to the mat. Brawling with headbutts and chops, Lariat knocks Vader into the ring. Knees and boots to the face, Vader meets the buckle. Vader lariats Hansen, headbutts from Vader. Vader dives onto Hansen at ringside, they are stiffing the shit out of each other on the floor.

Hansen is back in the ring now, Vader lands right hands to the face of Hansen. Hansen staggers to this feet, whip to the opposite buckle and Hansen dodges, belly to back suplex from Hansen for a close two. Hansen and Vader start swinging bins and chairs at one another. Hansen tosses Vader back into the ring, big shots to the head from Hansen. More clubbing and Vader drops Hansen across the guardrail, Vader drops a massive elbow. Hansen and Vader brawl on the floor now, knee-drop across the ribs from Hansen. They beat one another on their knees, the referee disqualifies both men in an unpopular finish. Diving clothesline from Vader lays out Hansen, they brawl to the back.

Disappointing but then again, I should have known. Two large bastards mauling one another can be fun but then they represent two different companies in AJPW and NJPW, there was no way we were getting any sort of decisive finish so we end up with what we saw here.

Double DQ!

(WCW United States Heavyweight Championship Match) Lex Luger © vs Dangerous Danny Spivey

The shitty part of every tag team he was ever in Danny Spivey is your next challenger for Luger’s championship, not my idea of an ideal opponent for The Total Package. I don’t expect Spivey to do any favours or play to the strengths of Lex Luger, Spivey had attacked Luger at The Clash to build up to this match.

Left hands out of a lock-up from Spivey, Luger lands a back body-drop and two shoulder blocks before a massive clothesline. Spivey slows it down, clubbing blows from Spivey. Luger blocks the atomic drop and nails a belly to back suplex for two, Luger seems cautious of Spivey. Luger lands massive right hands before knocking down Spivey, Irish whip and hip-toss from Luger. Luger tries a flying crossbody but Spivey ducks, Luger hurts his knee on the fall. Spivey suplexes Luger into the ring, face-rake and kick to the ribs from the challenger. Tombstone for two, neck-breaker for two. Spivey lands a DDT for a close two, Luger has a quick pin attempt but Spivey maintains control.

Spivey’s suplex is blocked, Luger drills Spivey with the suplex. Spivey uses a head-scissors to wear down the champion, big boot from Spivey for two. Powerbomb is blocked by Luger but the piledriver is not blocked, Luger barely survives the piledriver. Luger is firing up though, left hands from Spivey. Luger is back with right hands, Spivey kicks low. Belly to belly suplex by Spivey for two, reverse chin-lock from Spivey. Luger fades before firing up, Spivey lands a shoulder block before Luger lands a stun-gun. Spivey chases but Luger lands an elbow, Luger goes to the middle rope. Diving clothesline from Luger, Luger wants the rack. Powerslam from Luger, RACK TIME! Spivey pulls Luger to the apron, sunset flip from the apron but Spivey lands a left.

Spivey picks up Luger, Irish whip and both men collide in the middle of the ring with a massive clothesline. Right hands from Luger, side headlock from Luger. Spivey and Luger collide on a shoulder block, Luger thinks of climbing to the top. Spivey is there to meet Luger, Spivey wants a powerslam but Luger rolls through for the win.

Finish sums up the match, it was just meh. Never been high on Spivey, Luger can do good things even great things with the right opponent, Luger’s been fortunate to have worked with Flair etc but when it has been Hansen and his tag partner Spivey, it has been brutal.

Winner: Lex Luger over Dangerous Danny Spivey via Small Package!

(WCW Tag Team Championship Match) The Fabulous Freebirds W/ DDP vs Doom © W/ Teddy Long

Simmons and Hayes to start, Hayes stalls. Whip to the buckle, make it two and a bearhug slam for two. Irish whip to the buckle, left hand and running bulldog from Hayes for two. Chops by Hayes, Simmons reveres the Irish whip with a powerslam. Garvin comes in off the top and eats a powerslam, Garvin wants Reed. Knees by Garvin, hip-toss does not work as Reed clotheslines Garvin. Garvin tries a sunset flip for two, stand-off. Hayes comes in, blind-tag. Military press slams before Hayes lands his signature left-hand. Reed lands a back-breaker on Garvin, Reed and Simmons put the boots to Garvin.

Leg-drop and headbutts to the spine, Hayes is distracted by Simmons. Garvin is dumped to the floor, Reed comes down to whoop Garvin. Garvin is slammed onto the floor, Hayes protects his partner. Are the Freebirds babyfaces in this match? Simmons clubs the spine of Garvin, Garvin meets the boot of Reed. Garvin almost escapes but Simmons comes in, spinebuster city for two as Hayes makes the save. Irish whip into a powerslam, Hayes makes the save. Match breaks down, Hayes is caught by Simmons. Long throws Reed an object, Simmons is decked with the object and Garvin is pushed on top for the win.

So The Freebirds who have been the opening match tag team and beaten by everyone from The Southern Boys to The Steiner Brothers were challenging for the tag team championships and not only that but they are the team to dethrone Doom who have been babyface sort of since their feud with The Four Horsemen. Reed turns on Simmons at the end of the match so this team which has lasted little more than a year has come to an end after a great run with The Steiners and The Four Horsemen? I would call this a bizarre one because I do not want to see Butch Reed in that ring without Ron Simmons.

Winners: The Fabulous Freebirds over Doom via Foreign Object To The Face!

(WarGames Match) The Four Horsemen (Ric Flair/Larry Zbyszko/Sid Vicious/Barry Windham) vs Sting/Flyin’ Brian Pillman/The Steiner Brothers

2 rings, 2 cages and you can only win once all team members have entered and the only ways to win is by submission or surrender. Pillman was attacked in the lead-up to the PPV, his shoulder is heavily taped going into the match. Barry Windham will start and Pillman will start for Sting’s team, Windham attacks the shoulder. Pillman lands a massive clothesline, Windham grabs a side headlock. Shoulder block by Windham, Pillman uses the cage for a dropkick and hurricanrana. Windham is begging for mercy, chops in the corner by Pillman. Pillman and Windham are brawling, Pillman misses a crossbody. It looks rough, low blow from Pillman. Windham’s face is raked across the cage, Pillman bites and batters the head of Windham.

More right hands from Pillman, Windham is a bloody mess. Pillman climbs high, diving clothesline from Pillman. Jaw-breaker, Windham is begging for mercy. Kicks and elbows to the knee from Pillman, Windham kicks Pillman in the face. Windham rakes the eyes, Pillman back-drops to avoid the piledriver. Diving axe handle from Pillman, The Horsemen win the toss. In comes Flair who chops Pillman, they trade chops. Pillman is fired up though, Windham allows Flair to gain control. Pillman is launched like a dart into the cage, Flair chokes and kicks the shoulder of Pillman. Flair and Windham try to separate the shoulder of Pillman. In comes Sting, Flair is petrified. Sting stomps the crap out of Flair, Windham is attacked too. Sting explodes out of the corner with a double clothesline on The Horsemen.

Face-buster on Windham, Pillman and Sting combine on Flair. Another face-buster, Windham crotches Pillman on the top rope. Flair’s chops have no effect on Sting, right hands by The Stinger. Stinger Splash in the corner, Pillman has the figure four but in comes Zbyszko. Sting flies across the ring to wipe out Zbyszko but the numbers are too much for Sting, Zbyszko and Flair attack Sting. Sting is sent into the mat, Windham and Flair are preparing for Rick Steiner. Rick comes in right away, massive Steinerline to both Windham and Flair. Ten punches from Rick, Flair gets caught into a belly to belly suplex. Flair meets the cage wall, Rick rakes the head of Flair off the cage wall. Windham sends Sting to the cage, Pillman and Zbyszko are brawling it out in the other ring.

Sid comes into the cage, brutality time. Sid comes right after Rick, Rick meets the cage hard. Rick is kicked in the dick hard, Sid tees off with Sting. Flair is bleeding everywhere, Zbyszko makes the save and takes down Rick. Sting sends Flair into the cage, low blow by Flair. In comes Scott Steiner! Scott lands a massive clothesline, Zbyszko is caught in a Tiger-Driver. Scott lands a diving Steinerline on Sid, Side meets the cage wall. Stinger Splash on Flair, Scorpion Death-Lock on Flair. Zbyszko makes the save for his team, Sid slams Pillman on his shoulder. Eye-rake from Sid, hammerlock throw into the buckle. Sid chokes Pillman on the ropes, 4 Figure Fours are on in the ring by Team Sting. Sid rakes Rick’s eyes and it leads to a change reaction of escapes, Sting press slams Flair.

Sid clotheslines Rick Steiner down, Sting continues to pummel Flair. Pillman is choking Zbyszko, Sting rakes Flair’s face into the cage. Windham and Sid double clothesline Rick Steiner, Windham and Sid nail Scott Steiner. Pillman fights back at Flair, Flair tries to grab the hair but Pillman will not be stopped with rights and lefts. Scott drops Windham with a DDT, Sid boots down Scott. Sid presses Pillman into the top of the cage, Sid Powerbombs Sid in a sickening way, it’s a damn Ganso Bomb because of the cage. Sid does it again, Pillman is planted twice with a powerbomb. Anderson wants the referees to ask Pillman, Gigante comes into the cage. Pillman is wiped out, Gigante comes to the aid of Pillman.

Wow that is not exactly a stellar ending, I thought Gigante was going to take the place of Pillman who could no longer continue but no Sid killed him, Sid Vicious Powerbombed Pillman into oblivion. Anti-climatic but the match was hot, all you want from a match like this is brawling and blood, we get plenty and that finish is absolutely brutal. Sid destroys Pillman, putting over the monster that is Sid Vicious, great little interactions here with Pillman going right into the cage to rough up The Horsemen for the attacks on them, Flair and Sting brawling for the majority of the match and Sid plus The Steiners just hitting one another as hard as humanely possible. Very entertaining WarGames match from all involved with plenty of action to keep things interesting, just a flat finish that left me wanting more but I can understand why they went they way they did. Pillman came into the match injured and ultimately paid the price for competing when injured. Protects him and the babyface team in defeat but maybe just maybe Gigante should have took his place and went another five minutes before wrapping things up.

Winners: Team Horsemen over Team Sting via Surrender!

That was WCW’s WrestleWar 1991, a decent PPV from WCW. At the time when Clashes were a struggle to get through and the PPVs at the end of 1990 were tough due the awful Black Scorpion angle, WCW seems to be returning to some sort of normality on their cards. The opening match shows there is still a lot of work to do, I am not sure of the impact made by JYD, Tommy Rich and Ricky Morton in WCW during their tenure beginning in 1989, I know there was a little fanfare when The Rock “N” Roll Express came back but it was soon forgotten in favour of new teams like Doom and The Steiners. I think all these acts need to go, Bobby Eaton and Armstrong is fine technically, not much there angle-wise but Eaton continues to be seen as an incredible talent but the gimmick or the helping hand is not there, the complete picture is not there like it was with The Midnight so we need to do something to fix that. Taylor vs Z-Man again is fine, not much to it and that continues with Hansen vs Vader going to a double DQ, it’s fine but I am looking for something with a little substance. Luger vs Spivey is bad, Spivey is bad and I feel for Luger because it is only a matter of time before they say let’s have Luger chase Flair again and I can’t watch Luger lose again. Freebirds winning the championships is baffling, breaking up Doom when you have nobody to take their spot is mind-boggling, I do not know how tag team wrestling in WCW will look moving forward but I am little concerned while the main event delivers a bloody and violent spectacle which is what I want but the finish is just disappointing albeit understandable. Thanks for reading and remember: there’s always another night!

WCW Clash Of The Champions XIII: Thanksgiving Thunder Review!

Hello and welcome to another edition of Seanomaniac Wrestling Reviews, the only wrestling review series in the internet that is more polarizing than Brandi Rhodes! It is time for Clash of The Champions XIII: Thanksgiving Thunder! This card looks atrocious like the last Clash, it is filled with squash matches and such. No way is this going to be anything watchable, let’s just get into it!

The Fabulous Freebirds vs The Wide-Eyed Southern Boys

Garvin and Smothers to start, side headlock from Garvin. Smothers leapfrogs and drop-downs before landing hip-tosses and dropkicks to The Freebirds and Lil’ Richard. Hayes comes in, they batter Smothers before we see the crossbody spot that we saw the last time we saw them wrestle. Side headlock from Hayes, arm-drag and scoop slam from Smothers. Scoop slam for Garvin, double clothesline for The Freebirds. Hayes catches Smothers with his quick left, Smothers takes a bump from the apron to the guardrail. In comes Garvin, scoop slam by Garvin. Two slams from Garvin, Smothers lands a sunset flip for two. Clothesline by Garvin, Garvin climbs high but Smothers slams down Garvin. The referee misses the tag to Armstrong, Armstrong says screw it and lands a double clothesline. Lil’ Richard is on the apron, Garvin is back body-dropped onto the ramp. Armstrong dives onto Garvin, Lil’ Richard trips up Smothers who was running the ropes and Hayes lands the DDT for the win.

Thankfully quick, the two teams can work well together having done so at a previous Clash but I have no interest in seeing the two do battle for anything longer than 6 minutes, let’s switch it up in the tag team division!

Winners: The Fabulous Freebirds over The Wide-Eyed Southern Boys via DDT!

Nature Boy Buddy Landell vs Flyin’ Brian Pillman

Rematch time, Landell tries to chop down Pillman but Pillman uses his speed with a backslide and a clothesline. Landell is on the ramp, Air Pillman from the youngster. Pillman wants a piledriver, Landell reverses and lands a big right before a clothesline sends Pillman back into the ring. Knee sends Pillman to the floor, Landell sends Pillman into the ring-post. Chops in the corner, whip to the opposite buckle before Pillman lands a hip-toss and a dropkick. Springboard crossbody from Pillman to the floor, knee from Landell. Knee to the head, Landell lands a kick to the ribs and goes to the abdominal stretch for leverage. Pillman fights out and tries a middle rope crossbody but gets caught and Pillman eats a back-breaker for two.

Pillman lands a massive back body-drop, Landell puts Pillman in the corner looking for the superplex but Pillman shoves down Landell and lands a Diving Crossbody for the win!

Not much difference between this and their previous encounter, Landell takes most of the match and it is boring before Pillman does something interesting to engage the audience, Pillman seems lost in the shuffle for someone who is so popular.

Winner: Flyin’ Brian Pillman over Buddy Landell via Diving Crossbody!

The Cat vs Brad Armstrong

Curtis Hughes is here against jobber to the stars in Brad Armstrong. Cat shoves down Armstrong, more lock-ups before Cat whips Armstrong. Missile dropkick by Zenk for the win. Fuck me that sucked!

Winner: The Z-Man over Brian Lee via Missile Dropkick!

The Star Blazer vs Michael Wallstreet W/ Alexandra York

Captain Mike is no longer, back into his singlet and wrestling style offense. All red singlet and wrestling holds all around. Back into the Varsity Club era I see, side headlock by Wallstreet. Shoulder block by Wallstreet, hip-toss and dropkicks by Star Blazer. Side headlock by Blazer before Wallstreet sends Blazer to the floor, hot-shot by Wallstreet. Abdominal stretch, Wallstreet uses the ropes for leverage. Blazer catches Wallstreet with a boot, elbow by Blazer. Wallstreet rolls up Blazer with a terrible looking Boston crab before landing The Wallstreet Crash! Another squash, bring me a competitive match!

Colonel DeKlerk & Sgt. Krueger vs Kalua & The Botswana Beast

Qualifying match for the Pat O’Connor Memorial Tournament, Krueger slaps Kalua before Kalua lands a knee-lift, DeKlerk has his arm worked before a roll-up. DeKlerk taunts the crowd, Kalua grabs a wristlock. DeKlerk almost roll-sup Kalua again, two for DeKlerk. Springboard moonsault from DeKlerk, drop toehold into an elbow drop from Krueger. The Beast and Krueger are in, clubbing blow and flying clothesline by The Beast. The Nasty Boys vs The Renegade Warriors

Saggs to start with Mark, clean break from Mark. Saggs lands a cheap-shot, forearm shots from Saggs. Tag to Knobbs, double suplex on Mark Youngblood. Knobbs is unaware of the blind tag, Chris lands a flying crossbody and works the arm. Diving axe handle from Mark, diving axe handle from Chris. Knobbs clubs the crap out of Chris, Saggs comes into the match. Arm-drags and wristlock from Chris, tag to Mark who works the arm. Saggs grabs the hair, Mark is thrown over the top rope. Knobbs tosses Mark into the guardrail, Saggs and Knobbs work the arm of Mark. Knobbs distracts the referee so no tag for Chris Youngblood. Shoulder-breaker from Saggs but wait here we have The Steiners, we have a brawl.

Winners: The Nasty Boys over The Renegade Warriors via DQ!

Sid Vicious vs The Nightstalker

Sid borrowing from Wallstreet’s wardrobe, Nightstalker wants a test of strength. Sid wins and kicks Stalker, shoulder block and both collide before Stalker has the bearhug. Sid escapes but Stalker works the ribs with knees, Sid lands a massive belly to back suplex on Stalker. The Cat is here, Nightstalker has his axe and misses, Sid clubs people with the axe and wins.

What was this? Sid is the babyface? Is there something going on with The Horsemen? Where are they to help Sid? Nightstalker and The Cat together? So many bad matches back to back, this is atrocious.

Winner: Sid Vicious over Nightstalker via Axe To The Neck!

The Steiner Brothers vs Magnum Force

Scott wrestles one of these jobbers, Jobber 1 is not happy with Scott’s attacks. Scott trips up Jobber 1 and stomps on him, tilt-a-whirl slam and powerslam from Scott. Knee and tag to Rick, Jobber 2 tries to pepper Rick with rights. Rick lands a big right, Steinerline. Tag to Scott, Frakensteiner for the win. Joke of a show ladies and gentlemen!

Winners: The Steiner Brothers over Magnum Force via Frankensteiner!

Ric Flair vs Butch Reed

If Flair wins, they receive a championship match and Teddy Long becomes the chauffeur of Flair while if Reed wins, they receive Flair’s Rolls Royce and yacht. They lock-up, Reed pushes Flair to the corner. Clean break, side headlock and shoulder block. Lock-up and knee to the ribs, chops in the corner before Reed chops back at Flair. Flair chops and chops, Reed chops and chops back. Right hands and a stinging left by Reed, Flair comes forward and is battered. Flair flop, Flair begs for mercy. Flair flip to the floor and Simmons batters Flair, Flair misses a knee-drop and Reed applies the figure four. Anderson pulls Flair into the ropes, Flair is on the apron. Flair tries to block, Reed suplexes Flair into the ring for two. Reed slams Flair, Reed misses a diving elbow drop. Right hands to the head of Flair, Flair complains of the pain. Flair chops back at Reed before Reed decks Flair with massive rights and lefts, military press slam again. Right hand from Flair, Teddy Long places the foot on the ropes. Reed lands more rights and lefts, back body drop from Reed. Gorilla press slam again for two, Anderson pulled the referee to the floor. Diving Shoulder Block connects from Reed, Teddy Long is distracting the referee. Eye-rake from Flair, Reed is back-dropped onto the referee, Simmons clotheslines Flair. Anderson has a chair and waffles Reed in the spine but Simmons does not see it, Flair covers for the win.

Decent match, not Luger or Hawk or Nikita levels of good but Reed’s best singles performance in the ring since joining the company, Flair and Reed have a match that blows everything else out of the water on this card but it is not anything great. It held my attention which is good because I think I was going to fall asleep before this, credit to Flair for making me care again when Reed was in the ring by himself without Simmons.

Winner: Ric Flair over Butch Reed via Chair-Shot!

That was WCW’s Clash of The Champions XIII: Thanksgiving Thunder and this might be the lowest point of checking out WCW in the history of my reviews, the previous Clash was rough and The Great American Bash had some head-scratching matches in there but these are glorified house-show level matches on this card, magnum force and renegade warriors and matches not lasting over 6 minutes? We are trying to build towards Starrcade and not one thing on this show made me interested to see that show, I am not excited for the tag tournament, I am not into whatever is going on with Sid. I don’t care about The Freebirds battling Morton & Rich or Sting’s battle with The Black Scorpion. Where is The Dudes with Attitudes? Why is Arn Anderson never defending his Television Championship? Where is Barry Windham? What direction are we heading with this company? Questions and questions but mostly unanswered but thanks for reading and remember: there’s always another night!
