WWF In Your House 3: Triple Header Review

Hello and welcome to another edition of Seanomaniac Wrestling Reviews, the only wrestling review series on the internet that wants a percentage of your Twitch channel! It’s WWF In Your House #3 with Double Jeopardy being the main theme of the night. The WWF Championship, The Intercontinental Championship and The Tag Team Championship all on the line in one match. Owen Hart and Yokozuna against Diesel & Shawn Michaels, the stakes could not be higher in the WWF. We also have Dean Douglas vs Razor Ramon, Sycho Sid vs Henry O Godwinn and much more!

Savio Vega vs Waylon Mercy

Well this is something new, we have Waylon Mercy aka Dan Spivey a character heavily inspired from Robert De Niro’s character in Cape Fear. Mercy wants to shake Savio’s hand, Savio dodges the attacks of Mercy. Right hands and a massive kick, chops too. Mercy misses a corner splash, Savio works the arm. Big arm-drag, make it two. Mercy comes back with a knee, Savio is tossed to the floor. Chops on the floor, scoop slam on the floor. Cravate hold from Mercy, massive stun-gun from Mercy for two. Measured left hands from Mercy, choke-hold from Mercy. Irish whip and sidewalk slam from Mercy for two, Savio dodges the elbow drop.

Savio comes back with right hand, Mercy applies the sleeper. Mercy is looking out into the crowd like a mad man, Savio escapes by running the head of Mercy into the buckle. Mercy slaps on the sleeper again, Savio counters with a belly to back suplex. Irish whip and a big boot, spinning kick from Savio for two. Mercy eats a massive bulldog for two, cradle from Savio for a close two. Irish whip, Mercy kicks Savio and delivers a clothesline. Brainbuster from Mercy for two, belly to back suplex for two. Scoop slam counter from Savio for a bridging German suplex for two, Spinning Heel Kick from Savio and this is over!

You talk about an upset for sure, all we hear from the commentary team was how undefeated and great Waylon Mercy was, Savio wipes out Mercy with a beautiful spinning kick. The reaction towards Savio is still not at the level the WWF had hoped for, things are improving though. Never been impressed with Spivey whether it was in AJPW or as part of The Skyscrapers, I never cared for Spivey. This match reinforces my view that Spivey just isn’t that good.

Winner: Savio Vega over Waylon Mercy via Spinning Heel Kick!

Sycho Sid W/ Ted Dibiase vs Henry O. Godwinn

Godwinn was rejected by The Million Dollar Coporation which led to Godwinn slopping Sid with his slop bucket. Godwinn also got Dibiase twice with his slop bucket, Sid powerbombed Godwinn on the floor. Good Sid shit right there, this should be a slaughter I assume.

Lock-up, Sid has Godwinn in the corner but Sid misses. Right hands from Godwinn, Sid is driven into the mat. Big right hands, Sid is knocked to the apron. Clothesline and Sid is on the floor, Godwinn suplexes Sid into the ring. Godwinn cannot slam Sid though, Sid knees Godwinn to the floor. Dibiase attacks Godwinn behind the referee’s back, Sid continues battering Godwinn. Apron diving axe handle to the back from Sid, clubbing blows from Sid. Sid batters and boots Godwinn around the ring, Dibiase is loving this at ringside. Sid is attacking Godwinn in the corner, more kicks from Sid. Camel Clutch from Sid, Godwinn tries firing up but Sid crushes Godwinn with axe handles.

More axe handles and a cross-face from Sid, another camel clutch from Sid. Sid sends Godwinn to the buckle, Sid misses a corner boot. Sid climbs to the middle rope but Godwinn stops it with a fist. Big boot on Sid and a Slop Drop but Dibiase pulls out Godwinn. Dibiase begs off from Godwinn, Sid takes control. Godwinn continues to batter Sid, Dibiase trips Godwinn from the apron. Leg drop from Sid, Powerbomb from Sid and this is over.

Did Godwinn get too much offence in this one? I thought so for sure, the possible pin-fall on Sid was a bit much. The action was ok, nothing special from either man. Dibiase has grown on me as a manager at ringside, almost as good as Dibiase was inside of the ring. Sid rightfully picks up the pin, things should improve for Sid, I can’t see Sid staying at this level of the card for long. And if it’s Sid powerbombing fools all day long, I can watch it easily.

Winner: Sycho Sid over Henry O. Godwinn via Powerbomb!

Bam Bam Bigelow vs The British Bulldog

Bulldog turned heel and cut his hair, Bulldog has replaced his tights too. This new attitude from Bulldog might be for the best as Bulldog has the WWF Championship in his sights with Lex Luger gone from the WWF to WCW. Bigelow continues his babyface push, mixing it up with the top heels in the company. Shoulder block from Bigelow, Bulldog is being outpowered for once. Bigelow misses a right hand, clothesline connects though as Bulldog powders to the floor. Bulldog is sent to the buckle, back body-drop from Bigelow. Bigelow misses the elbow drop, Bulldog is now in control. Snap-mare into a choke, Bigelow pulls off Bulldog but Bigelow misses a falling headbutt.

Bulldog plants Bigelow with a suplex but Bigelow is right back up. Clothesline from Bigelow, Bulldog dodges Bigelow who lands hard on the apron. Great low-bridge from Bulldog, Bulldog stomps Bigelow who is trying to get back into the ring. Bulldog wants an apron suplex, Bigelow lifts Bulldog onto the top rope. Diving Headbutt from Bigelow for a close two, Bulldog chop-blocks Bigelow hard to regain control. Repeated knees are driven into the leg of Bigelow, Bulldog drops a leg on Bigelow’s knee. Bulldog works the leg over and over, Bulldog applies the rest hold to wear down Bigelow.

Bigelow is fighting back, kicks and right hands. Bigelow lands an enzuigiri, Bulldog is up first though and cracks Bigelow again and again. Single leg Boston crab from Bulldog, Bigelow makes it to the ropes. A right hand knocks down Bulldog but Bulldog comes right back at Bigelow, Bigelow lands a headbutt before Bulldog lands a knee to the ribs to damage Bigelow. Reverse chin-lock from Bigelow, Bigelow backs Bulldog into the corner. Right hands in the corner, Bulldog tries a slam but Bigelow falls onto Bulldog for a close two. Irish whip by Bigelow, Bulldog wants the sunset flip but Bigelow drops his weight on Bulldog. Falling headbutt from Bigelow, Bigelow misses his Bam Bam Sault. Bulldog covers for a close two, Bulldog is climbing high.

Diving headbutt from Bulldog for two, Bigelow blocks the right hands and headbutts Bulldog into the corner. Irish whip that Bulldog reverses, Bigelow smashes his face into the buckle and Bulldog uses the momentum from the whip to pick up Bigelow for his Running Powerslam and Bulldog picks up the win in this match clean.

Right choice as Bulldog has a new edge and needs to be established as a credible threat especially with an encounter looming with the WWF Champion. As a match itself, Bulldog needs more experience working heel as this was a big test for him and I think a lot of the match was flat. Bigelow smashing his back off the apron looked nasty and then, Bulldog worked the leg so it made little sense to me why they would highlight the back with replays and Bigelow would writhe around in pain selling the back if it was not established as a target for Bulldog from that point on but Bulldog works the leg and tries to get something going but it’s just a match. Props for the Bam Bam Sault and Running Powerslam though, both looked impressive.

Winner: British Bulldog over Bam Bam Bigelow via Running Powerslam!

Dean Douglas vs Razor Ramon

Mr. Douglas had stints in the WWF and WCW but nothing came of it until Dean Douglas popped up in ECW as The Franchise Shane Douglas, the main man of The Extreme Promotion. Disappointingly, Douglas is here in a singlet and as a Teacher like many of the gimmicks of the time, his gimmick is a profession and the disconnect between ECW Shane and WWF Dean is night and day. Razor charges to the ring, right hands floor Douglas. Clothesline to the floor and Razor is all fired up.

Douglas re-enters the ring, side headlock from Razor. Douglas continues to counter the attempts of Razor before Razor lands a big right hand. Douglas asks for mercy, Douglas rakes the eyes of Razor but Razor hip-tosses Douglas to the floor. Lock-up, arm-wringer from Douglas. Razor reverses, key-lock from The Bad Guy. Hammerlock counters by both men, Douglas flips over and trips Razor. Douglas avoids two clotheslines before running into a fallaway slam, two for Razor. Douglas is on the apron, Razor yanks in Douglas by his arm. Razor slaps on an arm-bar and slaps the head of Douglas repeatedly, shoulder thrusts from Razor and a leg drop to the arm.

Razor whips Douglas to the buckle, Douglas fakes out Razor and lands a sunset flip but Razor counters with a right hand. They trade pin-fall attempts before a clothesline from Razor, Razor continues working the arm. Douglas manages to send Razor to the floor, slingshot axe handle from Douglas and Douglas rams Razor into the ring apron. Scoop slam on the floor for good measure, Douglas lands a running knee which leaves Ramon smashed into the steel steps. Douglas rams Razor into the ring-post, Douglas rolls into the ring and poses for the fans.

Diving axe handle from Douglas, two for Douglas. Douglas throws forearms to the back, knee added in for good measure. Razor retaliates with a massive right, Razor lowers his head off the Irish whip and Douglas mat slams The Bad Guy. Snap-mare into a stretch, Ramon reverses the hold but Douglas makes it to the ropes. Irish whip to the buckle, make it double. Razor is down on the mat, springboard splash from Douglas for two. Camel clutch from Douglas, Ramon electric chair drops Douglas to escape the hold. Douglas covers for a close two, Ramon is firing up with a discuss right. Belly to belly from Ramon for two, corner clothesline from Razor.

Razor places Douglas on the turnbuckle, no back superplex as Douglas elbows away Razor. Diving crossbody from Douglas but Razor rolls through for two, Douglas pushes Razor into the referee. Douglas nails a forearm but Douglas gets caught, Razor’s Edge which flattens Douglas. 1-2-3 Kid rushes to the ring and counts the three, Razor is like what are you doing. They shove one another, Razor shoves Kid to the floor and Douglas scores the win with an O’Connor roll for the pin-fall.

So this did nothing for me. It’s extremely frustrating to see Razor go from working on top with Michaels to this, Razor’s heel work in that match was quality. So to have babyface Razor again with a heel who has not been established and who is smaller it really does nothing for me. Douglas is no Double J, Bob Backlund never gets involved and to top it off, what was that finish Why would Kid count the pin-fall? What authority would Kid have? Kid is no fool so what possessed him to do so? Douglas is a pure afterthought too, this is all about Kid vs Razor and it looks interesting for sure because Razor pulls Kid by the hair and slaps the shit out of Kid, coming off as a massive jerk which I am all for if I get a more heelish Bad Guy.

Winner: Dean Douglas over Razor Ramon via Handful of Tights!

Jean Pierre Lafitte vs Bret Hart

Lafitte stole the jacket of Bret, that’s the main thing going into this match. Are you telling me that Bret has no other jackets, we are going with that as Bret is not wearing a jacket in his pre-match interview. This match starts out with Bret flattening Lafitte with a suicide dive, right hands stagger Lafitte. Clubbing blows on the floor, Bret rips the jacket off of Lafitte. Lafitte is begging for mercy, Lafitte goes to the eyes. Bret eats kicks but counters the ram to the buckle, Bret lands right hands before Lafitte rakes the eyes once more. Clubbing blows from Lafitte, Bret is rocked in the corner. Hard Irish whip, Bret avoids the corner splash and arm-drags his opponent.

Knees into the arm before the application of the arm-bar, Lafitte misses a clothesline and Bret goes for the crucifix for two. Drop toehold and arm-bar from Bret, Lafitte shoves off Bret and lands a huge knee. Lafitte chokes the life out of Bret with his hands and ropes. Bret tees off though, big Irish whip but Bret lowers the head. Lafitte answers with a boot, Bret sends Lafitte to the buckle but Lafitte dodges which means Bret hits the buckle hard. Lafitte decides Bret should meet the buckle once more, Bret’s shoulder is in bits. Hard whip to the buckle, sternum-first goes The Hitman. Lafitte is back-dropped to the floor but Lafitte lands on his feet. Bret is pulled out and sent into the steel steps hard, Lafitte watches on as The Hitman struggles to his feet.

Apron diving axe handle from Lafitte, Bret fires back in the ring before a spinebuster plants Bret for two. Reverse chin-lock from Lafitte, Bret breaks the hold but Lafitte answers with a clothesline. Big leg drop for two, reverse chin-lock again to wear down The Hitman. Bret fights out, sunset flip for two. Clothesline from Lafitte, sidewalk slam from Lafitte. Lafitte is on the top rope, Diving Leg Drop for two. Lafitte calls for the finish, Cannonball misses for Lafitte. Lafitte runs into an inverted atomic drop, clothesline from Bret. Sharpshooter but Lafitte kicks Bret to the floor, Lafitte misses a tope con hilo landing on the floor hard. Bret hurls Lafitte into the steel steps, Lafitte is whipped into the buckle hard.

Irish whip into the gut punch, Russian leg-sweep for two. Small package for two, back-breaker from The Hitman. Bret’s Rope Elbow Drop is blocked with a boot from Lafitte, Bret gets caught for a rolling fireman’s carry. Two for Lafitte, Lafitte counters snake eyes and lands on top of Lafitte for a close two. Irish whip to the buckle, Lafitte boots down Bret for a close two. Bret lands a dropkick on Lafitte, running bulldog is countered as Lafitte shoves Bret into the buckle with Bret surviving as the foot was on the ropes. Bret ducks a clothesline and lands a forearm on Lafitte, Bret tries a crossbody but Lafitte dodges and Bret smashes into the ropes.

Lafitte is going to the top rope again, this could be the Cannonball. It’s a splash and it’s the same result as The Hitman dodges, both men collide off an Irish whip. On the ground, Bret tries to slap on The Sharpshooter, we have not seen this since Summerslam against Mr. Perfect I think and Lafitte taps out after being caught in The Sharpshooter.

This was solid, the feud is over something totally ridiculous but I did enjoy these two working inside of the ring. I do believe this really was a little filler for Bret’s year at this point but they do work hard. That tope con hilo to the floor was ridiculous from Lafitte but those whips to the buckle strernum-first were tremendous. I think this was much better than Bret vs Yankem but I need something great from Bret again, it’s been a while since I have seen Bret lock it up with someone who is over.

Winner: Bret Hart over Jean-Pierre Lafitte via Sharpshooter!

(Triple Jeopardy Championship Match) Diesel © & Shawn Michaels © vs British Bulldog & Yokozuna © W/ Jim Cornette

No Owen Hart, Owen Hart is not here. Owen Hart is replaced by The British Bulldog, all the championships are up for grabs here with the tag team championships changing hands if Diesel and Shawn Michaels are victorious while if Shawn Michaels is pinned, he will lose his Intercontinental Championships and the same would go for Diesel if Big Daddy Cool is pinned inside that ring. This would be the second time that Diesel is involved as a tag match as the main event for a pay per view.

Bulldog and Michaels to start, they lock-up. Side headlock from Bulldog, both men trade counters as Michaels tries an O’Connor roll. Michaels slides through the legs, both men flip escape from attacks before a back drop from Michaels and Michaels skins the cat. Yokozuna is battered by HBK too as Diesel clotheslines Yokozuna to the floor, the tag champions regroup on the floor. Yokozuna and Michaels reset the match, Michaels eats a big elbow from Yokozuna to cut off the quicker HBK. Scoop slam from Yokozuna, Yokozuna misses the elbow drop and HBK tags in Diesel. Right hands, Diesel eats a massive clothesline from Yokozuna. Another whip, Diesel ducks the clothesline and lands a flying shoulder tackle.

Another tackle has Yokozuna on the floor, Bulldog lands a cheap shot as Fuji distracts HBK. Forearm shots from Bulldog, headbutt for good measure. Stalling suplex from Bulldog for two, Bulldog lands shoulders in the corner. Snap-mare into the reverse chin-lock, Diesel breaks free countering the running powerslam with a shove. Knees in the corner and a corner clothesline, make it two. Tag to HBK, scoop slam and Rocket Launcher for two. Irish whip, Bulldog reverses and military presses Michaels onto the top rope. Tag to Yokozuna who elbows Michaels to the floor, Yokozuna chokes Michaels with his boot in the ring. Michaels is whipped to the opposite buckle hard, Yokozuna stomps on the Heartbreak Kid.

Bulldog lands a few forearms on the floor before slamming HBK, Michaels survives but Bulldog is there with a headbutt to greet HBK. Irish whip and a back body-drop from Bulldog for two, Michaels manages a sunset flip and a crossbody for two before Bulldog clotheslines the head off Michaels. Yokozuna is in, hammering Michaels with right hands. Yokozuna clamps on a shoulder claw on Michaels, Michaels is showing that fire again but Yokozuna rakes the eyes. Throat thrust and Yokozuna wants a Banzai Drop, Michaels dodges at the last moment. Tag to Diesel, back body-drop and snake eyes to Bulldog. Knee across the back too, sidewalk slam from Diesel.

Yokozuna and Diesel are brawling, Bulldog and Yokozuna are whipped into one another twice. The tag champions are down, Diesel lands a big boot on Bulldog. Michaels nails Cornette but Yokozuna flattens Diesel with a Samoan Drop. Sweet Chin Music by Michaels on Yokozuna, Bulldog picks up Diesel for The Running Powerslam. 1….2….. Michaels comes off the top rope and lands his elbow to the back of Bulldog. Wait, here comes Owen Hart and Diesel catches Owen Hart with a punch to the gut and lands his Jacknife Powerbomb for the win.

So Owen Hart comes in despite not being in the match anymore and loses the match for his team? That’s not legal but then again, counting everyone out at once in a Survivor Series match is still the worst finish of the New Generation. This match is a breeze thanks to HBK who outshines everyone in the ring with him, Michaels is lightening quick in this and has the crowd fired up for his spots and when it’s time to sell, Michaels puts over the power of Bulldog and Yokozuna. This also may be the pay-off to Owen Hart & Yokozuna championship win at Wrestlemania which means that championship run has manifested into two other singles’ stars winning the tag team championships which tells you all you need to know about the tag team division in 1995. Using the championships to further a wedge between two people is not my ideal way of building a program, I feel like there’s easier ways to tell the story without discrediting your Tag Team Division.

Winners: Two Bad Dudes With Attitudes over British Bulldog & Yokozuna via Jacknife Powebomb!

That was WWF’s In Your House 3, the weakest of these pay per views for me so far. The previous two were quick and had more positives than negatives but this In Your House, I am not sure. Savio Vega vs Waylon Mercy was very run of the mill, Mercy looks awful and has never impressed me in the ring. Savio is not over enough with the fans to carry this and we have the weakest opening match when comparing this to Kid vs Roadie and Bret vs Hakushi. Things do not get better with Sid vs Henry O Godwinn, I wouldn’t call either man known for amazing matches but Godwinn gets a visual pin-fall on Sid in this match, Dibiase has to save Sid, it’s mind-blowing to me. Bigelow vs Bulldog puts over the right man, considering what’s coming next but Bulldog has to grown into the role and Bigelow is hard to fit in as the sympathetic babyface considering his size.

Dean Douglas vs Razor Ramon is all Ramon vs The Kid for me, Douglas is an afterthought, the gimmick is horrid and I don’t know if Douglas was ever that appealing to me inside of the ring. Douglas definitely did not do it for me in this match, it’s a shame because I enjoyed Razor’s work on top against HBK but then again, I was watching HBK work with Razor and not Dean Douglas. Bret vs Pierre is typical Bret, busting his ass getting me to care despite the dumb storyline and it’s a decent match with Bret building more momentum towards whatever is next for The Hitman. The main event looks to be the standout match on the card as it should be and Shawn Michaels looks to make it exciting and filled with drama. It’s a decent tag team match for sure but the finish is ludicrous. How a man who was not in the match could lose it for his team is a ridiculous decision and Owen Hart deserves so much better considering the high-level of work and time that’s gone into Owen in the year 1994. So I wouldn’t recommend this PPV unless you want to see everything like myself, 1995 continues to be a fascinating year in how messed up and confusing things can get. The ball has been dropped with Sid, Razor Ramon and Owen Hart, all three men should be in important feuds and near the top of the card, I do miss Double J also who was entertaining as Intercontinental Champion. Taker needs something for the fans to get behind too because these matches with the likes of IRS, Bundy and Kama have been quite the chore to get through. Things are bad and could be tweaked to make things more interesting but 1995 is nearly over, I hope things end on a high but I think I will be wrong. Thanks for reading and remember: there’s always another night!

WWF Survivor Series 1993 Review

Survivor Series (1993) - Wikipedia

Hello and welcome to another edition of Seanomaniac Wrestling Reviews, the only wrestling review series on the internet that contains more rambling than a Val Venis Twitter Post! It’s WWF Survivor Series 1993, where the biggest and best superstars of the World Wrestling Federation come together for a series of spectacular Elimination Tag Team Matches. The concept has been wearing me down after watching so many tag matches back to back with the same formula but things have been changing with Survivor Series 1991 having a WWF Championship as well as last year’s edition so hopefully, WWF Survivor Series 1993 continues that trend! And look at me with my big mouth, I could not be more wrong. Tag matches galore, well let’s see if I can stomach all of this card in less than 3 sittings.

Team IRS (IRS/Diesel/Rick Martel/Adam Bomb) W/ Harvey Whippleman vs Team Razor Ramon (Razor Ramon/123-Kid/Marty Jannetty/Macho Man Randy Savage)

Well it seems that the WWF learned from their last pay per view and have Randy Savage competing, too old to compete Vince? Are you mad? Anyways, IRS is without Ted Dibiase who was sent packing by Razor Ramon so IRS has a team and Ramon has a team. Jannetty and The Kid really though? This era will be the death of me I swear, it’s so hard to get into the WWF during this time. I haven’t see Martel in ages, always enjoyed his work.

Ramon and Martel to start, Martel works the arm before Ramon reverses the hold into a hammerlock. Martel counters, Ramon counters. Drop toehold from Martel, Ramon squeaks out before eating an elbow. Martel eats a slap, knee and forearm shot by Martel. Ramon reverses the Irish whip, Martel slides over Ramon and tries a middle rope crossbody but Ramon rolls through for two. Fallaway Slam from Ramon for a close two, Martel gains control briefly before walking into an atomic drop. Right hand from Savage, inverted atomic drop and clotheslines from Ramon. Martel tags in the big man, Adam Bomb.

Stand-off as Adam Bomb talks trash, lock-up. Adam Bomb pushes back Ramon with ease, Ramon loses the power test to Adam Bomb once more. Side headlock from Bomb, Ramon elbows his way out of the hold. Shoulder block from Bomb, Ramon is taken back by Bomb’s power. Test of strength, Bomb outpowers Ramon once more with Ramon falling to a knee. Ramon uses his strength to come up to his feet before Bomb goes low with the boot. Ramon kicks back at Bomb, big suplex with Martel trying to save Bomb. Bomb and Martel have words, Bomb decks Martel. IRS tries to calm down his team, it works for now.

Bomb and Kid reset the match, shoulder block by Bomb. Massive two-handed throat toss from Bomb, tag to Diesel. Diesel hammers Kid with a forearm, huge toss out of the corner. Forearm shot to the spine, gut-wrench powerbomb from Diesel. Diesel toys with Kid, kicks to the head. Massive big boot from Diesel, Diesel whips Kid. Kid counters for a headscissors, tag to Savage. Diving Double Axe Handle to Diesel, Team IRS is getting decimated by Savage. Martel and IRS are down, Bomb is whipped into Diesel. Savage knees Bomb to the floor, scoop slam to Diesel from Savage. Diving Elbow Drop from Savage, Diesel has been eliminated from Team IRS!

Diesel Has Been Eliminated by Randy Savage!

Martel comes right in, Savage sends Martel to the buckle. Back body-drop, Martel scrambles back to his corner. IRS and Savage reset, big knee to the gut and attacks from IRS. Whip to the ropes, Savage ducks and lands a crossbody for two. Series of clotheslines, tag to Ramon. Ramon works the arm with shoulder blocks, arm-bar from The Bad Guy. IRS escapes a headlock, it allows for Martel to knee Ramon from the apron. IRS tags Martel, middle rope axe handle from Martel. Back-breaker from Martel, knees and elbows to the back. Bomb comes into the ring, whip and back elbow to the face. To the buckle, Ramon is being worn down. Tag to Martel, another middle rope axe handle.

Tag to IRS, snap-mare and elbow drop. A leg drop too for good measure, reverse chin-lock from IRS. Martel switches with IRS behind the referee’s back, whip from Martel. Martel lowers his head which allows a knee-lift from Ramon. In comes IRS, Ramon boots IRS and tags Savage. IRS cuts off Savage, Savage knees IRS off the buckle. Stun-gun like manoeuvre from Savage, massive scoop slam. Here comes Crush, Crush has turned heel no longer with blond hair and neon tights. Savage wants Crush, IRS rolls-up Savage with a handful of tights.

Randy Savage has been Eliminated by IRS!

IRS and Jannetty in the ring, side headlock from Jannetty. Hip-toss and dropkick from Jannetty for two, Martel tags into the match. Shoulder blocks from Martel, eye poke and knees in the corner. Tag to Bomb, Jannetty is in trouble. Belly to back suplex from Bomb, tag to Martel. Abdominal stretch, Bomb allows Martel to use leverage to injure Jannetty further. Martel charges into the corner, Jannetty dodges and Martel is down. Tag to Ramon, Martel tags IRS. Whips to the buckles, chokeslam from Ramon. Razor’s Edge, IRS is gone!

IRS has been Eliminated by Razor Ramon!

Match breaks down, everyone is in the ring. Ramon picks up Martel, IRS cracks Ramon with his briefcase. Ramon is down on the floor, IRS walks off with a smug look on his face, Ramon has no idea where he is and the referee counts out Razor Ramon.

Razor Ramon has been Eliminated via Count-Out!

Kid and Martel, both men show great speed. Martel cartwheels out of danger, feeling himself at that moment. Leapfrogs before a Japanese arm-drag from Kid, Martel escapes the hold. Tag to Bomb, Kid trips up Bomb. Dropkick from Kid, suicide dive from Kid goes wrong as Bomb catches Kid for a scoop slam. Slingshot clothesline from Bomb, hard whip to the buckle. Whip to the buckle, Kid dodges and rolls-up Bomb for two. Spin-kicks from Kid, tag to Jannetty is stopped by Bomb. Tag to Martel, gut-wrench suplex from Martel for two. Martel lands a shot to the ribs, Kid reverses the middle rope axe handle with a right hand.

Tag to Janetty, flying reverse elbow. Knee-lift on Martel, whip to the buckle. Jannetty bounces Martel off the buckle, snap-mare for two. Tag to Kid, double elbows. Martel sends Kid to the buckle, Kid sunset flips Martel out of the corner for the elimination. Bomb chases in on Kid who tags Jannetty who apron sunset flips Bomb for the win!

Well I am pretty sure this is the most surprising match of all-time, everything that I thought could have happened did not happen in this match. Savage takes out Diesel with the elbow? Savage rolled-up by IRS? Ramon and Savage eliminated on their team, not the sole-survivors? Kid and Jannetty as winners? What am I watching? Truly crazy stuff. Anyways, watching Kid bump around for monsters is fun, little wrestling of substance here though. The most interesting thing angle-wise is that it looks like we will see IRS vs Ramon at the Rumble. Not really looking forward to that either, that was an interesting experience for sure.

Winners: 123 Kid & Marty Jannetty over Adam Bomb via Sunset Flip!

Team Shawn Michaels (Shawn Michaels & His Knights) vs Team Hart Family (Bret Hart/Owen Hart/Bruce Hart/Keith Hart)

Bret in a singlet like that? This night is a wild one indeed. So, this is confusing as Lawler was feuding with Bret but allegations put that to bed with Lawler leaving the WWF for the time being and Shawn Michaels being inserted into the feud. Michaels has three masked partners too which bodes well for HBK, Owen Hart looks to start the match. Owen and Michaels to start, Michaels talks massive amount of shit to the face of Team Hart. Bruce Hart will start, Michaels has the side headlock. Into a hammerlock, tag to the Black Knight. Bruce dodges both, Michaels and Black Knight bang heads.

Bruce is sent to the buckle but takes out all nights, Michaels nails the black knight by mistake. Bruce tags Keith, Keith elbows Michaels before Michaels gets caught in a small package for two. Drop toehold from Keith, Michaels is caught in the arm-bar. Michaels escapes and tags the Red Knight. In comes Owen Hart who makes a fool of The Red Knight before an eye poke from Red Knight. Owen lands a hip-toss, Japanese arm-drags and a big dropkick sends Red Knight down. Black Knight eats arm-drags before Bret, Bruce and Keith punch Black Knight. Now, it’s Blue Knight vs Bret Hart. Eye poke by Blue Knight, Bret catches the foot and lands an inverted atomic drop. Clothesline for two, Bret tags in Keith who tags in Bruce, they work the arm of The Blue Knight.

Bruce eats an illegal knee from Michaels on the apron, scoop slam by Blue Knight. Rib-breaker from Michaels with a series of elbows, Red Knight suplexes Bruce with ease. Two for Red Knight, Bruce begins fighting back but in comes Black Knight. Bruce counters for a backslide, Black Knight kicks out. Michaels tags in, stomps to the chest. Michaels is sent into the buckle by Bruce but Red Knight cheapshots down Bruce. Michaels eats a massive clothesline from Bruce, tag to Black Knight. Bruce tags Bret, Bret tees off with right hands. Gut shot, O’Connor roll for two. Small package for two, back-breaker from Bret. Bret’s Rope Elbow Drop, Michaels makes the save for Black Knight. Tag to Owen, massive spinning heel kick. Match breaks down, The Harts send Team Micheals into one another, Black Knight is clotheslined by Bruce and eats a missile dropkick from Owen for the elimination.

Black Knight has been Eliminated by Owen Hart!

Red Knight comes in, Owen takes him down with ease. Stretching the leg, we have a tag to Bret. Wishbone-split from Bret & Owen, Keith comes in and works the leg too. Knees to the leg before Red Knight goes low and takes down Keith. Keith wrenches the leg some more, tag to Bruce. Keith is back in, Red Knight misses a knee drop. Keith applies a Figure Four Leglock, Michaels makes the save for a second time. Red tags in Blue, Keith fights back. Keith is whipped off the ropes, Red trips up Keith. Micheals lands a slingshot headbutt before Blue Knight regains control. Huge arm-bar from Blue, tag to Michaels. Top rope diving axe handle, hammerlock throw into the corner. Keith is in serious trouble, another hammerlock throw.

Michaels wrenches the arm in the ropes before tagging Red, Keith tries ripping at the mask but Red is in full control. Keith has his arm stretched against the ring-post before Bret lands a big kick. Bottom rope guillotine from Red, another tag to Blue. Blue drops a leg on the arm, hammerlock scoop slam from Blue. Leg drop, tag to Michaels again. Michaels misses a top rope splash, tag to Bret. Michaels tags in Red, Bret lands huge punches. Reverse whip from Red, Bret catches Red for a spinebuster. Sharpshooter and Red is gone!

Red Knight has been Eliminated by Bret Hart!

Blue Knight attacks Bret after the elimination, Bret is thrown to the floor. Suplex in the ring from Blue for two, massive elbow. Blue tags in Michaels, hard Irish whip to the buckle. Flying reverse elbow from HBK for two, reverse chin-lock in the middle of the ring. Bret survives the hold though, his hand not dropping for the three-count. Bret elbows his way out before a well-planted knee takes down The Hitman. In comes Blue, low headbutt for two. Blue lands big shoulders in the corner and a chop. Bret kicks away Blue after an Irish whip, middle rope clothesline.

Owen lands a big belly to belly suplex for two, Michaels whips Owen into Bret who is knocked off the apron and onto the guardrail. Michaels takes control and rolls-up Owen for the elimination.

Owen Hart has been Eliminated by Shawn Michaels!

Michaels is taking a drink as a frustrated Owen Hart looks on at why nobody cared about him being eliminated. Bruce comes in against Michaels, jaw-breaker from Bruce. Whip into a sleeper from Bruce, Michaels sends Bruce face-first into the buckle. Both men bang heads off a side headlock, Bruce tags in Keith. Big right hand, abdominal stretch from Keith. Michaels counters with the hip-toss, in comes Bret. Michaels flips out of the corner like, Bret kicks Michaels who lands groin-first on the top rope. Michaels kicks away from Bret, Michaels runs out of the arena and this match is over.

Wow, that was one of the most torturous matches I had to ever sit through. I have voiced my displeasure at these kind of Survivor Series matches but this was brutal. I never want to see a Keith or Bruce Hart match ever again, they are awful. They were five men in this eight-man match that the audience and myself could not care about, the Owen angle does not justify that sloppy and boring affair that I sat through. Knights were horrendous, Keith & Bruce are terrible. All of Michaels’ selling and Bret’s efforts are for nothing because this match is awful.

Winners: Team Harts over Team Michaels via Count-Out!

(Smoky Mountain Wrestling Tag Team Championship Match) The Heavenly Bodies vs The Rock N Roll Express ©

A bit of co-promotion here with Cornette showing his premier tag teams of his company. I do love Jimmy Del Ray and Tom Prichard is great too, Rock N Roll Express are a little older here but still able to do what they need to do, should be entertaining. The Heavenly Bodies attack Gibson to start, Gibson is beaten down by Prichard. Morton hurls Prichard and Del Ray to the floor, suicide dive from Morton onto The Heavenly Bodies. Cornette is going mental, we have also switched commentators with Monsoon & JR taking over commentary duties.

Gibson and Del Ray wrestle to start, headscissors and bulldog from Gibson. Tag to Morton, double elbow. Del Ray tags Prichard, lock-up. Right hands from Prichard, Morton sends Prichard to the buckle. Gibson is attacked by Prichard, Morton lands a crossbody from the top rope. Prichard saves the match. The Rock N Roll Express smash Prichard with their double dropkick, Cornette is smashed by Morton with a right hand. Gibson covers Prichard, Del Ray comes off the top rope with the tennis racquet and wham, Gibson is pinned and we have new champions!

I love good tag team wrestling and this match is chocked full of tag team wrestling, smart and enjoyable tag team wrestling. The problem is not a single person gave a damn in that arena. Cannot blame the fans tbh, Heavenly Bodies have appeared in the WWF before but not sure if The Rock N Roll Express were featured heavily on WWF television prior to this match. The lack of crowd reaction really took me out of this match, props to JR for providing as much context as possible. Nice catch from Del Ray for the racquet finish, wish the crowd was more into the match.

Winners: The Heavenly Bodies over The Rock N Roll Express via Racquet To The Head!

Team Bigelow (Bam Bam Bigelow/Bastion Booger/The Headshrinkers) W/ Luna Vachon vs Team Doink (The Bushwhackers/Men On A Mission)

Not sure what is more horrifying, The Bushwhackers still here in late 93 or the fact that I am going to have to sit through this match. Booger and Luke brawl, Booger hammers Luke before Luke bites the ass of Booger. Booger tags out, in comes Samu who stomps Luke. Headbutt from Samu, Samu stares down all Doinks before biting a balloon full of water which leads to a roll-up, Samu is eliminated.

Samu has been Eliminated by Doink Luke!

In comes Fatu, Butch tries a headbutt but hurts his own head. In comes Booger again, massive leg drop from Booger. Tag to Bigelow, headbutt to the ribs. Bastion Booger has been Eliminated by Mabel!

Fatu offer chickens to Luke, Luke takes the bait and Fatu hammers Luke with throat thrusts. Mo is riding a scooter around the ring, Fatu is perplexed y this madness. Bigelow wipes out Mo with an enzuigiri, throwing the scooter away. Fatu lands a back-breaker, Fatu climbs to the top rope. Beautiful Top Rope Splash, Fatu picks up a banana. Butch is in the ring, Fatu doesn’t want to get hit with the bucket so Fatu jumps down, Butch rolls him up.

Fatu has been Eliminated by Butch!

Bigelow destroys the three smaller Doinks before Mabel says “Come on big boy”. Bigelow tries a shoulder block, no effect. Same result on a second try, Mabel shoulder blocks Bigelow down. Clubbing blows from Mabel, Mabel misses the corner splash. Bigelow lands a flying shoulder block, in comes a Bushwhacker who is slammed. Luke throws bananas at Luna? Bigelow gets distracted and is pinned off a corner splash and all four Doinks cover Bigelow for the win.

I willingly chose to watch this…. I have many regrets to live with now because of it. Definitely a cool down match that would be needed at this point in this show but after not one of these matches delivering at all due to in-ring performance and lack of crowd reaction, this was the icing on the cake. The “comedy” was certainly something, just let’s finish this show already.

Winners: Team Doink over Team Bigelow via Dog-Pile!

Team Foreign Fanatics (Yokozuna/Ludvig Borga/The Mountie/Crush) W/ Jim Cornette/Mr. Fuji/Johnny Polo vs The All-Americans (Lex Luger/The Undertaker/The Steiner Brothers)

Are you telling me one of The Quebecers gets to be in the main event of Survivor Series? Sweet Jesus, one of these things is not like the other. Why not both Quebecers? I’d rather not see Crush sacrificed here. Anyways, there are elements here that could make this interesting and most of them surround one man: The Undertaker.

Scott and Jacques to start, Jacques wants a handshake. Scott says go fuck yourself, leapfrog into a belly to belly from Scott for two. Scott tags in Rick, Jacques tags in the big man. Yokozuna is in the ring, the world champion is in the ring. Scott psyches up Rick, Yokozuna misses a clothesline and Rick lands one of his own. Shoulder blocks and Yokozuna is down on the floor, furious with this development. Yokozuna drags Rick to the corner, in comes Borga. Massive rights and lefts from the boxer, Borga is not paying attention. Rick lands a diving shoulder tackle for two. Rick grabs the arm, Borga boxes his way out of that. Scoop slam, Borga misses the elbow. Rick tries a diving crossbody but Borga counters for a huge powerslam. Looks ugly, Rick may be injured. Elimination though, Borga takes down one of The Americans.

Rick Steiner has been Eliminated by Ludvig Borga!

Jacques and Scott restart the action, military press slam from Scott. Crush catches Jacques, no fear in the eyes of Crush. Crush wants a test of strength, throat thrust from Crush. Scott ducks the clothesline, Crush lowers his head. Tiger-bomb from Scott, massive clothesline. Vince announces that Savage is in the building, wanting to get his hands on Crush. Crush leapfrogs Scott, savate kick from Crush. Randy Savage is trying to get ringside, everyone is trying to stop Savage coming to the ring. Crush military presses Scott to the floor, Crush has Scott in the ring. Repeated kicks to the head and one axe kick to the back of the neck. Leg drop to the back of the head, massive headbutt from Crush.

Leg-lock from Crush, Scott continues to survive but just barely. Leg drop to the inner thigh from Crush, more kicks to the ribs and hamstrings. Savage is here again, Savage wants Crush bad. Crush has his eyes fixed on Savage, Scott dropkicks Crush to the floor. Crush decides it’s time to hammer Savage, these two are brawling but Crush has forgotten about the match, Crush has been counted-out!

Crush has been Eliminated by Count-Out!

Borga and Yokozuna double-team Scott in the corner, Jacques hides behind the referee. Camel clutch from Jacques, flying reverse elbow from Jacques for two. Piledriver from Jacques for two, Jacques is furious. Scott reverses an Irish whip and lands a gut punch to Jacques, massive military press slam from Scott. Tag to Lex Luger, Luger scoop slams Jacques. Middle rope elbow drop for the elimination.

Jacques has been Eliminated by Lex Luger!

Talk about saving The Deadman, Taker is yet to enter the ring. They know who the fans want to see, Borga wants Luger. Scott wants Borga, here we go. Lock-up, rights from Borga take down Scott. Massive clothesline from Borga, Borga lands a corner crossbody and clothesline. Borga is slow to climb to the top rope, Scott catches him with a superplex. Yokozuna attacks Scott illegally, Yokozuna scoop slams Scott, Yokozuna misses an elbow drop. With off the ropes, Yokozuna sees the Frankensteiner coming and holds onto the ropes, Leg Drop from Yokozuna for the elimination.

Scott Steiner has been Eliminated by Yokozuna!

Luger comes in, Summerslam rematch time. Both men slap one another, chops and throat thrusts from Yokozuna. Luger is choked on the middle rope, scoop slam from Yokozuna. Luger dodges the splash, right hands from Luger. Clothesline by Luger, Yokozuna lands a clothesline of his own. Borga is in, delivering kicks of his own. In comes Yokozuna, Luger avoids the corner splash. Tag to Undertaker, the place explodes. Right hands from Taker, massive DDT from The Deadman. Taker sits-up, throat thrust and a clothesline from Taker. Borga nails Taker from the apron, Taker turns right around and clocks him to the floor.

Yokozuna nails a belly to belly suplex, Taker sits-up. Clothesline and leg drop from Yokozuna, Yokozuna wants The Banzai Drop. Yokozuna lands down on the chest of Taker, Taker sits-up avoiding the drop. Whip off the ropes, flying clothesline from Taker. Yokozuna rolls to the floor, Yokozuna sends Taker into the steps. Taker sits right back up, Yokozuna is rammed into the steel steps. Both Yokozuna and Taker are counted-out, not happy about that at all.

Yokozuna & The Undertaker have been Counted-Out!

Borga and Luger remain, sidewalk slam from Borga. Suplex from Borga for two, powerslam from Borga for two. Luger blocks the suplex and lands one of his own, Luger ducks two clothesline attempts and both men collide in the middle of the ring. Cornette is trying to get in the ring, Fuji gives a bucket to Borga. Borga waffles Luger with the bucket, is Borga going to steal this? Luger powers out at two, Luger fires up and tees off with massive rights. Gut shot from Luger, DDT from Luger. Elbow from Luger, two for Luger. Luger whips Borga, powerslam from Luger for two. Borga goes low with a liver shot, Luger leapfrogs Borga who ducks his head off an Irish whip and lands his Flying Forearm for the win.

Is that the end of Borga’s push here and now? Maybe, do I care? Not really at this point. This match was building towards one moment, one confrontation and you took it away from me in a matter of minutes. Undertaker was not tagged in prior to battling Yokozuna, the place went nuts when Taker went after the champion and that DDT was beautiful. The steel steps no-sell and clocking Borga were also great spots but apart from that, I don’t know how to feel about this one. Luger gives everything in the babyface role and Yokozuna conserves himself to drop the big moves when appropriate but the elimination-style tag formula just sucks me out of the show at this point. I stand by my thinking that Survivor Series should never be comprised of only Survivor Series matches because it’s just the same thing over and over. The best part of this match was clearly Taker vs Yokozuna, shame it was being saved for the next pay per view.

Winner: Lex Luger over Ludvig Borga via Forearm!

That was WWF Survivor Series 1993, one of the worst pay per views I had to sit through for reviewing purposes. Nothing was offensively bad on this show, it was just so run of the mill that nothing sticks out in my mind when I think about this pay per view. Looking at the opening match, Savage is a welcome addition to a match that needs his star-power. IRS is not on the level of an intercontinental champion, his mic skills and in-ring work are nowhere near where they need to be to pull it off yet due to the roster, we have IRS going forward against Razor Ramon. Jannetty and Kid bumping for bigger wrestlers is a fun watch but it cannot save this match. Team Hart vs Team Michaels was a shit-show, not pulling any punches here. The Knights were horrendous and Keith & Bruce are not much better. Don’t care about Owen, Bret or Michaels when 85% is slop and plodding along. The beginnings of a great angle but that match was one of the poorest ways to kick it off.

Heavenly Bodies vs Rock N Roll Express was a fun tag team match but no reaction killed it, these two teams out-worked every WWF tag team on this night with this one match and they have the skills needed to make it fun with ease. However, nobody cared and it was there. Cannot be helped, it was the right match in the wrong place. Team Doink vs Team Bigelow was insulting, all around horrible. Why didn’t The Headshrinkers just murder the clowns? Why be defeated by water and nothing? Why are The Bushwhackers here in 1993? The main event was nothing special, I cared only for Taker vs Yokozuna and it lasted for a few minutes before being saved for the next show. Arguably, the easiest payday of Taker’s career. Avoid this show, this is the show they are talking about when they say The New Generation was tough to get through and the WWF were behind the times, lacking star-power and still stuck in the Saturday Morning Cartoon Era. This show was painful, end of story. Thanks for reading and remember: There’s always another night!

WWF Summerslam 1993 Review

 SummerSlam (1993) - Wikipedia

Hello and welcome to another edition of Seanomaniac Wrestling Reviews, the only wrestling review series on the internet that does not have a shiny new AEW Contract! It’s WWF Summerslam 1993, big matches on this night as WWF attempts to go all out with a main event featuring Lex Luger against Yokozuna for the WWF Championship! We also have Ted Dibiase taking on the newly face Razor Ramon, The Undertaker vs Giant Gonzalez, Bret Hart vs Jerry Lawler and Shawn Michaels vs Mr. Perfect. On paper, this might be the most stacked card the WWF could offer at the time but will it be a good show? The quality has been less than stellar since the transition into The New Generation. Will I leave this pay per view satisfied? Let’s find out!

Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase vs Razor Ramon

Ted Dibiase along with tag team partner IRS laughed at Ramon’s loss to the 123 Kid which led to the turn of Ramon who is now a beloved babyface. Dibiase sneak attacks Ramon before Ramon turns the tide, back body drop and a fallaway slam before a right hand floors Dibiase. Dibiase slowly makes his way back into the ring, they lock-up. Dibiase uses the hair to pull Ramon into the corner, rights and lefts from Dibiase before Ramon reverses an Irish whip to the buckle. Clothesline and clothesline to the floor, Dibiase is out of the ring. Dibiase is pulled into the ring, Dibiase begs for mercy. Ramon mocks Dibiase before Dibiase pulls Ramon into the buckle. Choke using the top rope from Dibiase, repeated choke attempts from The Million Dollar Man.

More choking on the canvas, Irish whip and back elbow from Dibiase. Back-breaker from Dibiase for two, Dibiase lands a clothesline for two. Snap-mare into a reverse chin-lock from Dibiase, Ramon survives the sleeper and grinds it out with elbows against the ribs before Dibiase lands a knee to the gut to thwart Ramon. Neck-breaker from Dibiase, suplex and Dibiase calls for the end. Ramon counters with an elbow, Dibiase chops back. Irish whip reversal from Ramon, clothesline with both men going down. Dibiase rams Ramon into the buckle, Ramon spills out the floor. Dibiase unties the corner buckle, Ramon rams Dibiase into the exposed buckle though. Razor’s Edge and this match is over.

That would be it for the in-ring career of Ted Dibiase in the WWF, what a career it had been. Always enjoyed the work of Dibiase, a breath of fresh air upon entering the WWF and his matches with the likes of Hogan, Warrior and Savage were so much fine. Dibiase slowly wound down through the years but I will remember his work with Bret as well as The Dusty Angle followed by The Virgil Angle. Now, it is bizarre to see Ramon and Luger as babyfaces because in the months prior, I enjoyed their work so much as heels. Ramon could put on a damn good match too, the roles have changed though and I am not sure how I feel just yet. The match was alright, nothing special. Dibiase loved to use that buckle finish in the WWF, a few times it has come up on pay per view. A big singles win for Ramon to gain momentum but with the size of Ramon, how many heels can bully him or elicit sympathy? Decent opener, crowd was very much behind Ramon, just wish the in-ring action matched the crowd’s enthusiasm for the match.

Winner: Razor Ramon over Ted Dibiase via Razor’s Edge!

The Heavenly Bodies W/ Jim Cornette vs The Steiner Brothers

The Bodies sneak attack The Steiners, Rick takes a flapjack and more while Scott is kept out of the ring before Scott has enough. Big punches, the Bodies are whipped into one another. Tilt-a-whirl slam from Scott to Del Ray, huge power move from Scott. We settle, Prichard and Scott will kick us off. Military press slam, Rick nails Prichard from the apron. Back body drop for Del Ray, Scott tags in Rick. Pritchard eye rakes Rick, hip-toss does not work though. Clotheslines for both Bodies, scoop slams too. In comes Scott, inverted atomic drops for both Bodies.

Pritchard and Del Ray combine though, bulldog and trip takes down Scott. Enzuigiri from Pritchard, Scott is hurled to the floor. Del Ray takes out Scott with an apron con hilo. Tag to Del Ray, axe handle to the back of Scott. Del Ray jiggles for justice! Scott reverses an Irish whip before Del Ray nails a massive DDT on Scott. Tag to Pritchard, drop toehold and elbow drop combination. Pritchard jokes Scott, reverse chin-lock from Pritchard. Scott battles back before a drop toehold from Pritchard ends that flurry. Superkick from Del Ray for two, tag to Pritchard. Back rake from Pritchard, middle rope choke and Cornette waffles Scott with his racket.

Tag to Del Ray, choke from Del Ray. Tag to Pritchard, quick tag to Del Ray. An elbow here and an elbow there, Del Ray tries his DDT again but a northern lights suplex from Scott finds the mark. Del Ray tags Pritchard, Pritchard gets caught for a tigerbomb. Scott tags Rick, Rick batters Del Ray. Steinerlines brother, scoop slams all around. Scott dropkicks both Bodies, Rick lands his Diving Bulldog for two. Scott pummels Pritchard in the corner, Pritchard dumps Scott to the floor. Cornette distracts Rick, Prtichard is thrown the racket and nails Rick. 1…2… Rick kicks out of Del Ray’s pin. Del Ray moonsaults Pritchard by mistake. Frankensteiner on Del Ray and this match is over.

Heels are meant to lie, there is no greater lie than calling those two men Heavenly Bodies. I don’t know why it makes me laugh so much but it truly is the perfect gimmick. Anyways, The Heavenly Bodies and Jim Cornette are absolutely annoying and they pose and taunt but when its time to sell, they bump all around for The Steiners. Good ol-fashioned tag team match with a satisfying pay-off at the end, only thing missing is Cornette being bumped around by one of the Steiners. Enjoyed it, easy to breeze through.

Winners: The Steiner Brothers over The Heavenly Bodies via Frankensteiner!

(WWF Intercontinental Championship Match) Mr. Perfect vs Shawn Michaels © W/ Diesel

Who has killed it in the WWF during this time? Mr. Perfect, I have loved every second of his babyface turn. This match was set in motion at Wrestlmania IX when these two brawled after Perfect’s match with Luger. Key-lock takedown from HBK, Michaels is cocky and confident. Snap-mare from Perfect with ease, Michaels has a side headlock. Michaels will not let go, Perfect pulls at the hair. Michaels slides through the legs, both men duck one another’s attacks before Perfect takes control, knees to the shoulder of Michaels. Hammerlock from Perfect, both men reverse the hold before Michaels grabs a side headlock. Perfect counters with a headscissors before HBK escapes and misses an elbow drop.

Perfect is in the head of Michaels, Michaels backs Perfect to the corner. Cheap shots before Perfect reverses it for chops. Michaels leapfrogs and elbows Perfect, whip to the buckle reversed. Michaels flips over Perfect but Perfect lands a clothesline for two. Arm-bar from Perfect, Michaels backs Perfect to the corner. Perfect whips Michaels to the corner, Michaels dodges and tries a top rope crossbody before Perfect lands two arm-drags back to back for two. Short-arm scissors from Perfect, Diesel looks a little tense at ringside. Michaels misses two right hands before being caught on a dropkick, catapult to the floor from Perfect.

Diesel edges towards Perfect, this allows Michaels to land Sweet Chin Music. Perfect is dazed on the floor, Michaels lands an apron axe handle. Knees to the back and an elbow drop for good measure. Make it 4 elbows, hard whip to the buckle. Michaels clubs the back, make it two. Whip to the buckle, the ring shakes with that whip. Michaels drops his weight on the back of Perfect, back-breaker into a submission from Michaels. Perfect punches his way out of the hold, Perfect leapfrogs and dodges before a big dropkick. Back body drop from Perfect, knee-lift from Perfect. Inverted atomic drop for two, chop from Perfect.

Big right hand from Perfect for two, Michaels whips Perfect. Hip-toss is blocked, backslide attempt from both men. Perfect flips over Michaels, Perfect-Plex in the ring before Diesel trips Perfect. Perfect is dragged to the floor, Perfect hammers Diesel and Michaels. Michaels is thrown into the ring, Michaels dives onto the referee so Diesel can send Perfect into the ring-post, Michaels wins by count-out.

Could it be that bad for Michaels to go over Perfect? I mean, Michaels needs it badly to go over a big star, few are on the level of Perfect in the WWF. Of course, I enjoyed this match because these two are great inside of that ring. That backslide into The Perfect Plex was simply awesome, crowd erupted on that. Some of the sequences were fantastic, the way the two would move was great. I really wanted Michaels to go over clean but it’s great that these two actually got to work one another, it almost didn’t happen but I am sure glad it did. Hopefully, I will get to see Mr. Perfect for a few more pay per views inside of that ring because from matches with Bret to matches like this one with Michaels, the guy can still deliver when it is go time.

Winner: Shawn Michaels over Mr. Perfect via Count-Out!

IRS vs 123 Kid

The Kid beat Razor Ramon, he is an underdog that you cannot help but get behind when he is in that ring. Kid is as awkward as possible, playing his gimmick to perfection I suppose. Everyone underestimates him and takes a whipping for their overconfidence. Anyways, IRS charges in and roughs up Kid, Kid lands a big spinning heel kick before IRS lands a flapjack. Kid is decked again before a pop-up dropkick puts Kid back into the match. IRS throws Kid to the floor, big right hands before Kid almost schoolboys IRS for a close two. Back elbow and elbow drop from IRS for two, abdominal stretch with using the ropes for leverage. Reverse chin-lock, Kid reverses and lands huge kicks in the corner. Hard Irish whip, Kid wants the Moonsault. 1..2. IRS kicks out! La Magistral for two, IRS catches a leg but eats the other leg to the head. IRS reverses an Irish whip, dropping down and landing a massive Write-Off for the win.

Glorified squash match? Sad when IRS is one of your top heels in the company, nothing against the guy but he puts me to sleep inside of that ring. I do not know how he sweats so much when he ain’t hauling ass inside of that ring. You could have left this off the card to be honest, did nothing for me or for the career of 123 Kid.

Winner: IRS over 123 Kid via Write-Off!

Bret Hart vs Doink The Clown

Lawler is meant to be battling Bret due to Lawler’s hatred of Bret winning the title of King of The Ring. Lawler assaulted Bret after his coronation, ending the pay per view so this major angle is stuck in the middle of Summerslam. Suppose that is how it goes sometimes, Todd is here to interview a hobbling Lawler who is on crutches. Lawler cannot compete due to a car-crash, Lawler has a replacement though in Doink The Clown. The demented Doink The Clown throws water on Bruce, Bret comes to the rescue hammering Doink and clotheslining Doink to the floor.

More right hands from Bret, Doink is clotheslined to the floor. Doink hits the ring-post hard, Hart continues to batter Doink in the ring. Bret swings around Doink and pummels him to the floor, Lawler supports Doink at ringside. Doink nails Bret from the apron with a shoulder, big right hand but Bret was playing possum. Bret crotches Doink on the top rope, Doink is slammed face-first into the mat. Elbow from The Hitman, Doink’s attacks are blocked by Bret who nails a big headbutt. The headbutt dazes The Hitman, Bret goes to the floor. This allows Doink to sneak attack Bret. Bret hits the steel steps hard, massive right from Doink.

Doink lands an axe handle from the top rope, Lawler cheers on Doink. STF from Doink to continue to slowdown The Hitman. Bret is back up though, elbows before Doink lands a huge knee to the ribs. Doink drags around Bret by the hair before applying The Stump Puller. Doink uses the ropes for leverage, the referee stops the cheating ways of the villainous clown. Doink stomps on the head of Bret, Doink looks for The Whoopie Cushion but Bret blocks with his knees. Right hands by Bret, shot to the gut. Russian leg-sweep, Bret’s Rope Elbow Drop. Sharpshooter and Doink is helpless as Lawler cracks Bret with the crutch again and again. Lawler has fooled The Hitman again, President Jack Tunney is here though and Tunney is not happy.

Tunney forces Lawler into a match with Bret, Lawler must fight or he’s banned from the WWF forever! Bret batters Lawler back to the ring, headbutt in the ring from Bret. Bret bites the head of Lawler, back body-drop from The Hitman. Headbutt to the lower regions of Lawler, Owen cheers on his brother. Bret cracks Lawler with the crutch, Lawler suckers in Bret and nails him with the crutch. The referee is allowing the action go, Lawler shoves Bruce Hart before choking Bret with the crutch. Bret is pulled into the ring-post groin-first by Lawler, Lawler has the crutch again. The referee is with Bruce & Owen, Lawler nails Bret with the crutch.

Right hands from Lawler, Bret meets the buckle hard. Lawler poses for himself, Bret catches Lawler with a low blow. Bret pulls down his straps, mocking Lawler and firing up at the same time. Right hands from Bret, headbutt from The Hitman. Another back body-drop, back-breaker from Bret. Piledriver from Bret to Lawler, Bret decides to go to his rope. Bret’s Rope Elbow Drop, Bret gives Lawler the thumbs down. Sharpshooter from Bret, Lawler submits to The Sharpshooter!

That was a long affair, I did love the idea of Lawler coming up with any possible excuse not to face The Hitman. Makes sense for Lawler to want no part of Bret, the Doink match was rather flat though. Never felt like Doink would be able to hurt Bret, the best part of the match was the finish with Lawler revealing his ruse attacking The Hitman before being forced into the match. When Lawler and Bret faced off though, it was good. Felt like the two hated one another, every strike from the crutch to Bret’s comeback was full of hatred and fire. Icing on the cake from Bret is pulling down the strap and the piledriver on Lawler, perfection from The Hitman. Lawler battered and payback has been given tenfold. However, things change quickly as Lawler is declared the winner of the match as Bret refused to let go of The Sharpshooter.

Winner: Jerry Lawler over Bret Hart via DQ!

Ludvig Borga vs Marty Jannetty

Poor Marty, it never panned out. Ludvig Borga is new, big, impressive heel wrestler who hates America. Already calling out Lex Luger so the future looks bright. Jannetty is attacked from behind, rights and lefts from Borga. Hard Irish whip and clothesline from Borga. Knees in the corner from Borga, Jannetty is rocked. Irish whip, massive flapjack with a punch on the way down. Two-handed choke from Borga, Borga places Jannetty in the corner. Rights and lefts to the ribs of Jannetty, another whip to the buckle. Borga misses a splash, clothesline from Jannetty before Borga clotheslines him down.

Borga picks up Jannetty and headbutts Jannetty. Sunset flip attempt from Jannetty, a right hand stops that attempt. Borga continues to talk very well into the hard camera. Bearhug from Borga, Jannetty escapes and tries a scoop slam but Jannetty cannot lift Borga. Massive clothesline from Borga which leads to a flip bump, sunset flip but Borga misses the punch this time. Two massive Superkicks from Jannetty, the middle rope crossbody leads to a falling powerslam from Borga. Torture Rack from Borga, and it’s over.

Nothing overly impressive there, Jannetty does all he can to make Borga look like the real deal. Unfortunately, not much would come for Borga from what I remember. Anyways, this was a squash and it serves its purpose.

Winner: Ludvig Borga over Marty Jannetty via Torture Rack!

(Rest In Peace Match) Giant Gonzalez W/ Harvey Whippleman vs The Undertaker W/ Paul Bearer

Debuting at Royal Rumble, Gonzalez was Whippleman’s new monster to take out Undertaker. Kimala had failed so Whippleman chose an even bigger opponent for The Deadman. Taker would walk away with the victory at Wrestlemania thanks to a DQ but Taker wants his revenge here at Summerslam. Taker comes out with the biggest reaction of the night so far, let’s hope the fans can stay with this match because it’s going to be a rough one.

Taker goes right after Gonzalez, throat thrusts and big choke in the corner. Harvey ain’t happy with Taker, Taker scares off Harvey. Taker takes his eye off the ball though, big boot and headbutt from Gonzalez. Taker fires back with a clothesline, make it two. Gonzalez is still standing though, Gonzalez clotheslines down Taker but Taker sits up, Gonzalez hurls Taker to the floor. Taker meets the apron and then, Taker meets the steel steps. Gonzalez has a chair, Taker is waffled with the chair twice. Taker is hurled into the steel steps, his knees taking the brunt of the impact. Taker is struggling big time, Gonzalez hurls him into the ring. Taker reaches out to the stolen urn, Harvey snatches it away.

Taker is back to his feet though, two massive right hands. Harvey steals away the urn once more, Gonzalez reassumes control. Hard whip to the buckle, Taker collapses to the mat. The gong of The Deadman sounds in the arena and here comes Paul Bearer. Once again, monster reaction and it seems that Gonzalez will be resting in peace all too soon. Whippleman and Bearer to brawl, Whippleman eats a clothesline from Bearer. Bearer has the urn once more, monster reaction. Gonzalez slams Taker hard to the mat, Gonzalez spots Bearer. Bearer holds the urn to the sky, Taker sits up. Gonzalez has no clue, clotheslines from The Deadman. Throat thrust has Gonzalez to a knee, Taker leaps off the top rope with a Diving Clothesline. It’s over!

Easily my match of the night so far, such glorious campy WWF goodness. Character development, years of careful planning leads to a wonderful little moment. Paul Bearer returning, the urn in the clutches of Paul Bearer and the power it gives Undertaker. I loved how this match had some genuine attempts at shooting shots to tell a story, should have had one on the entrance ramp to catch Bearer coming through the curtain but there was some great stuff here. It suckered me in, didn’t insult me because I mean who wants to see a Gonzalez match without smoke and mirrors? A moment that I will not forget, a nice little moment for Undertaker & Paul Bearer.

Winner: The Undertaker over Giant Gonzalez via Diving Clothesline!

Tatanka & The Smoking Gunns vs Bam Bam Bigelow & The Headshrinkers

The heels control the ring to start as Team Bigelow clothesline the shit out of everyone. Tatanka is whipped to the ropes, shoulder block by Bigelow. Stomp to the back of the head from Bigelow, Tatanka ducks a clothesline and lands a flying shoulder block before a big dropkick. Back body-drop from Tatanka, both men duck one another’s attacks before both men try a crossbody and meet in the middle. Billy and Fatu receive tags, rights from Billy before a superkick takes down Billy. Billy counters a suplex for a variation of a DDT, reverse bulldog from the top rope. Fatu reverses an Irish whip and shoulder blocks Billy, tag to Samu. Double headbutt from The Headshrinkers, stun-gun from Samu.

Afa attacks Billy as the referee is with Tatanka, superkick from Samu. In comes Bart, flying crossbody from Bart for two. Arm-drag, Samu elbows Bart in the face for trying a crossbody. Samu whips Bart and slams him face first into the mat. Bigelow gets the tag, dropkick into the face of Bart for two. Tag to Fatu, powerslam from Fatu for two. Tag to Samu, Samu bites the head of Bart. Double headbutt from Headshrinkers, tag to Bigelow. Shoulder block from Bigelow, Bart is rammed into the heads of The Headshrinkers. Tag to Fatu, Bart tries to slam Fatu head-first into the mat but Fatu shakes it off. Clothesline turns Bart inside-out, Team Bigelow batter Bart behind the referee’s back.

Bigelow is the legal man, double elbow with Samu to the face of Bart. Whip to the buckle, Bigelow misses a splash in the corner. Bart finally tags Tatanka, Tatanka runs wild with Tomahawk Chops. Scoop slam from Tatanka, DDT plants Bigelow to the mat. Tatanka is on the top rope, diving crossbody from Tatanka for a close two. Bigelow sends Tatanka into the buckle, Tatanka was firing up before Bigelow clips Tatanka with a massive enzuigiri. Samu is now legal, middle rope headbutt for a close two as everyone enters the ring for a brawl. The Gunns end up on the floor, Tatanka is all alone. Bigelow lands a running splash, triple headbutt on Tatanka. Fatu, Samu and Bigelow are up top, they all miss their diving headbutts. Billy and Bart dive onto Bigelow and Fatu, Tatanka rolls-up Samu for the win.

It just never came together in this match for me, we were building to that Tatanka hot-tag and when it came, it was alright and nothing special. Crowd didn’t come un-glued, crowd was burned out after The Taker match. Crowd came alive for the possibility of The Headshrinkers & Bigelow squishing Tatanka to death which is always a great thing when you have a babyface. Match comes to an end, nothing gained or lost to be honest.

Winners: Team Tatanka over Team Bigelow via Roll-Up!

(WWF Championship Match) Yokozuna © W/Jim Cornette & Mr. Fuji vs Lex Luger

This is so disheartening for me, Lex Luger as a heel in the WWF I was loving the guy was one of the biggest assholes I had ever seen and was such a great addition to the roster. However, plans changed and now we have Mr. America Lex Luger, the new Hulk Hogan. Luger slammed Yokozuna after arriving via helicopter and was destined to challenge Yokozuna for his championship. Could Luger overcome what Hogan could not? Luger toured America in The Lex Express to raise support for this moment, can the evil Yokozuna be thwarted by Luger? Randy Savage gets a monster reaction, it’s maddening to think Vince thought Savage was too old for the WWF at the time when few are more over than The Macho Man. Also, Luger has to be in consideration for one of the worst themes of all-time? What is that fanfare style crap?

The two lock eyes, no fear on the face of either man. Fuji is almost in the ring, catching Fuji in the act Luger launches himself at Yokozuna. The champion meets the buckle, massive clothesline from Luger. Yokozuna does not go down, knocking Luger but Luger dodges the leg drop. Luger goes after the calf, Yokozuna is down. Big elbow drop from Luger for two, Luger runs into a scoop slam from Yokozuna. Luger dodges the elbow drop this time, right hands from Luger. Stomps in the corner, corner clothesline from Luger. Ten punches in the corner from Luger, the referee pulls down Luger for the closed fists. Yokozuna lands a throat thrust to take down Luger, choke from Yokozuna.

Fuji sees the powder coming, Luger dodges the powder and goes back to work on Yokozuna. Scoop slam attempt but Luger’s back gives out on him, Superkick from Yokozuna. Luger eats a headbutt and is down on the floor, Cornette and Fuji are stalking Luger. Yokozuna has a camera cable, Luger is choked against the guardrail. Luger lays against the ring-post, massive clothesline against the ring-post. Yokozuna has a chair, Luger ducks the chair shot. Rights from Luger, Luger stares down Fuji. Luger is on the middle rope, diving axe handle from Luger. Luger on the top rope, massive diving axe handle. Luger calls for his forearm, Massive Diving Forearm from Luger. 1…2… Yokozuna manages to kick out! Luger waffles Yokozuna with a clothesline to the back of the head for two, Luger is looking frustrated.

Both men collide off a clothesline, Fuji throws a bucket to Yokozuna. Luger is smashed right between the eyes, Yokozuna crawls into the cover. 1…2. Luger powers out! Chop from Yokozuna, belly to belly suplex from Yokozuna. 1…2… Luger kicks out! Yokozuna chokes Luger on the middle rope, the champion rakes the eyes of the challenger. Saito suplex from Yokozuna, Luger manages to kick out. Shoulder hold from Yokozuna, Luger powers up and rams his elbow into the ribs of Yokozuna. Scoop slam attempt but Yokozuna falls onto Luger for another close two.

A massive leg drop from Yokozuna, Luger manages to kick out of the leg drop. Yokozuna wants his Banzai Drop! Luger manages to roll out of the way! Luger is struggling to his feet, Luger tees off on Yokozuna but Yokozuna bites the head of Luger. Yokozuna misses a corner splash, scoop slam by Luger. Luger explodes with emotion, Fuji is dropped off the apron. Bionic Forearm to the face of Yokozuna, Yokozuna is unconscious! Cornette is on the apron, Luger decks Cornette and Luger wins by count-out, celebrated by his fellow WWF Superstars.

We will tackle the finish in a second, I want to give Luger credit in this match because I really enjoyed this match. Going in, I thought I don’t know if I want to see this but Luger and Yokozuna held my interest, Luger exploded along with the crowd at the end and it was tremendous. If only there was a flurry to follow, knocking Fuji, Cornette and Yokozuna one after another could have really rammed up the heat here in the arena but it did not come. Luger also got way up there for those belly to belly suplexes and leg drops, putting over Yokozuna as the man. The finish itself, I mean yeah Luger looks ridiculous as it appears as if it’s Luger’s Coronation as WWF Champion and Vince is screaming, the locker room empties and they cheer our hero. But Luger did not win the championship, he scored a count-out victory over the champion. So why the madness? Why the confetti? The long-standing rumour has been Vince was unsure to put all his eggs in the Luger basket and boy, it sure looks that way here.

Winner: Lex Luger over Yokozuna via Count-Out!

That was WWF’s Summerslam 1993, a mostly poor effort from the WWF during a time where they were looking vulnerable and weak. We kick things off with Dibiase vs Ramon, enjoyed Dibiase’s work throughout covering him during The Golden Era years. Sad to see him go but I would rather Dibiase retire than have to work with IRS and work against the likes of The Natural Disasters. Steiner Brothers vs Heavenly Bodies is a fun tag team match. Jimmy Del Ray is one of the most irritating sights to be committed to a wrestling ring and I love him for it, I will always be a fan of that man for what he does inside of that ring. Steiners get beat down and then batter the cheating heels, loved it.

Michaels vs Perfect was what I expected from two greats, I didn’t know which way it would go and the finish left me wanting more. If that’s it for the two locking up, I will be saddened as it showed just how good the two could be with one another. IRS vs 123 Kid was not my style at all, cannot get behind IRS and I also find it hard to get into The Kid considering his whole gimmick premise is that The Kid beat Ramon by fluke so everyone else is more than likely going to batter him. Lawler vs Hart was a lot of fun, Lawler cheating in every way possible followed by him getting wrecked by Bret was great. Did not care for The Doink match, could have thrown anyone in that heel role so no harm done. Borga vs Jannetty was a squash, Team Tatanka vs Team Bigelow was passable as it served as a cool down between the big two matches.

Taker vs Gonzalez had no right to be enjoyable yet that moment where Paul Bearer comes back and Taker rises when he regains the urn, just magic and I loved it and felt like a kid again. That made up for the sluggish pace of the match and we can finally move on from that feud so that’s another plus. Yokozuna and Luger, any pay per view that ends in a count-out is never going to sit right with me because of the money people had to and have to spend on the things but the celebration is what tips it over the top. Complete madness to celebrate like that but it could have been a last minute switch. Regardless, Summerslam 1993 has some big matches but it doesn’t feel like a Summerslam much like some of Summerslam’s 92 card. It was enjoyable in moments, small little bites here and there but it was also boring and I found myself doing other things instead of reviewing. Thanks for reading and remember: there’s always another night!
